I have a food dehydrator and the heating element will not come on. I narrowed the problem down to the high temp sensor failing. There really are not any markings on the parts so that I can figure out what they are so that I can find replacements. What are they called?

Could be either thermistors or thermocouples... and if you want my SWAG, I'd say thermistors...Last edited by crazy steve; 11-05-2014, 01:17 PM.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

I went through pages and pages of thermistors and couldn't find any that looked like that.Nathan

Nate have you ever been to that electrical supply store on south Kinickinick, I needed a switch for the microwave, they had it. Only took the old man an hour or so and that was to get to the counter to see why the dinger went off when I came through the door.
If you want send it to me and I'll run down there. PM me76 XS650 C ROADSTER

Ok, after staring at some of the smudges of writing on the parts I thing This is what one had on it (pieced together between smudges on each part):
LEBAC
RYD 93
250V10A
TF 93 C
SGS ROHS
C0610
None of it comes up as anything when searching for it. The C0610 does come up as some electronics part but it doesn't say what it is or give a picture of it.Nathan

Amazing! Thanks Steve! Now to try and figure out what temps to get?
I am assuming the one is a 93C cut off but what would the other one be. I am assuming there is a low end turn on and a high end cut off? The temperature control knob is a bi-metal contact switch so maybe it is just 2 cut offs in case one fails closed?Last edited by natemoen; 11-05-2014, 03:17 PM.Nathan

I would assume that there's two in case one fails or is slow to open. Now, these are non-resettable, so actual temp control is performed elsewhere in the circuit, so you may have an issue there too which may be why the cutout opened. I'd check to see if both of the cutouts are open; if one is still good, bypass the bad one and try using the remaining one. If the dehydrator then works, there's the problem. But if it takes out the good one quickly, then you may have a bad thermostat...
As to deciphering that product sheet, good luck. What you appear to have is a 250v cutout rated at 10A continuous with a opening temp of 93C/200F. They list all the right specs, but don't say which is which...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

So when you say non resettable you mean, one time over heating and it is toast?Nathan

There's some auto-reset disc types out there (commonly used in furnaces) but they're much bulkier so you may have mounting issues. And remember, these are installed as the last fail-safe; these aren't supposed to operate unless you have another problem in the circuit. Yes, they can fail 'just because', but they're really there to prevent a fire. An auto-reset type may allow a fire...Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

I was a copier fax technician for many years. Any device with toner has a fuser...giant heat rollers. All fusers have thermal fuses that vary with size and workload. Surf some copier fax parts places and you might get lucky.Matt
