Has anyone been able to find a gloss black high temp powder coat? All I've seen is flat black on the high temp stuff. I was wanting it for some headers.

Tod,
If you can't locate any, you might give Rod Brakhage a call.
He does powder coating, ya know.
Pretty sure he could help ya out.
I have his number, if you need it.

X2 on the cerakote. We spoke to a firearm dealer up the street who actively uses cerakote. We are in the process of getting quotes on exhausts for our builds, if we can get a good exhaust sample shoot from them I'll definitely share.Matt

I've seen an exhaust with a high-temp ceramic coating and it's pretty fragile. It may be temp resistant, but not friction. Just a normal installation onto the bike marked it up pretty noticeably. It's NOTHING like powder coating for durability, which is dang near bullet proof. I'd just never seen gloss up to this point for the high temp.
That Caswell doesn't give any specs that I see besides a 450 degree cure at 20 minutes. I wonder what it s max service temps are. Considering the temps that chrome turns blue at... it'd have to be much higher than that 450.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

I saw 1000 degrees on the Caswell stuff...prolly not good enough...i merely posted that as an example of how quickly i found something on the net...it seems its not as easy to find as one would like...a glossy black high temp coating that will hold up to everything...1980 XS650G Special-Two

There's some rattle can stuff that withstands even higher than that, but... it's rattle can stuff. It seemed to hold up about as well as the professional ceramic coated stuff.. meaning not very well. The center headers get sandblasted behind the front wheel on a fairly steady basis, and nothing I've tried withstands that for very long. It was maybe a year or so ago, but I'd searched for a long time and never seen any high temp gloss, so apparently there's some stuff now coming out. BUT since I hadn't been able to find any before.. was the reason for my posting.
So.. I was thinking of either sending them off to Jet Hot, while I have a good solid system still, (Seem to be getting about like hen's teeth.. even worse for the XJ) to get done in their "Chrome" or try to look some more for a gloss black that would take the heat. Haven't decided yet and was just looking at options still.Last edited by trbig; 10-14-2014, 06:19 AM.Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

You also might consider adding a fender extender that would keep alot of that road crap from contacting the headers in the first place...good luck finding what you want...1980 XS650G Special-Two

I guess I'll be 1st to try this Duplicolor 2000° paint, flat black like stove paint goes on first then a gloss clear. Both are 2000° finish, what would U-ALL suggest for prep. sand blast, soda, glass bead, just to get the chrome ready to accept paint ?76 XS650 C ROADSTER
