More great XS Eleven history: Article on the win at the Coca Cola 800

Finding so much great stuff on the overlooked racing history of the XS 11

      http://www.ksrc-au.com/phpBB3/viewto...?f=31&t=36010/

Where can I compile this stuff for future reference? I have added some to Wikipedia but would like to see it here if possible.

            Hey Orange,

You're doing a great job right here in this thread. Later, they can be copied to the XS11 Info/Articles section or such for storage.

Followed the link, here's the photo that I find interesting!

This shows that they didn't want to loose HP and so didn't actually run them in STOCK configuration with regards to the drivetrain, or at least not in this race!?

Thanks for putting this in the right location.

That chain drive conversion was apparently partially done with TZ750 parts. Anyone got some TZ750 parts laying around? Ha Ha.

I can't get my head around the swing arm construction. they moved the pivot point forward but it looks bolted on and not even bushed. Perhaps bearings were overkill for the relatively short distances or do you think they are crammed in there?

Also, check out the custom rear set. Simple fabrication. I like it.

                        Cool

Really cool video. Who knew I was riding a race bike.
Super Dave in Langley built his own frame for an XS11 with a chain drive, and raced it at Westwood BC. Was in the early 80s.
I asked him what his lap times were, but he could not remember, which to me means he was not as fast as the fast guys. IMO, the bikes are too heavy to be serious track bikes. But against the other tanks of the day they did pretty good.
My money was on the Suzuki, but it fell over.

Yeah, they are heavy beasts but bulletproof and handled and raced much better than their current (non convert) reputation would suggest.

Probably didn't get the news of all those racing victories over here.

I've sure learned that OZ has a strong M/C racing culture.

Would love to know what happened to Super Dave's bike.

I'd love to get my hands on or have a look see at one of those heads.

NZ too. Anstey who does well at the IOM is a Kiwi.
Peter Murphy and other Kiwis were going to the Island in the fifties. I used to watch those guys race in NZ at the time.

Last time I saw Super Dave's bike it was in his shop in Langley. That would probably be in 012 or 013.

My XS11 is currently hiding in my GFs garage in White rock. I am grounded for about three more weeks due to wrist surgery.
