    Insurance

Have used State Farm for everything forever. I did not think that you needed road side assistance with an XS1100?

If you do, I guess AAA would be the next alternative.

This entire situation has me confused...

When I had just my Maxim, living same place I do now, (Tulsa Co.), (liability and medical only, no roadside,) was $34/ mo...W/ Progressive. Couldn't get it through Shelter, too high! Like $150/ mo.!
Also, I have a perfect driving record, no tickets, no claims or wrecks, and a 800 FICO score.
Then a year or so later, added the '79F with the Maxim policy... Progressive wanted to increase it to $150/ mo! Then suddenly, Shelter would do it for $36/ mo....?? So, I did that for a year or so.

Then, Shelter sent me a notification that because I lived in Tulsa Co, and no longer lived in Washington Co, they were tripling the rates! That pissed me off!

So, I decided to sell both of the 11's, and bought the new Connie.
Both Progressive and Shelter wanted outrageous sums. Offended, I started checking around. Went with AAA. Full coverage, twice the limits I had before, maxed medical...$34/ mo!
I figured AAA's roadside would also be the way to go... NO WAY!
So, I have AMA, $49/ year.

The whole insurance thing has gotten out of hand, and is just a rip.

I've never filed a claim in my entire life. Kept my record clean (and believe you me... That's not easy riding a Concours...!) Excellent credit score, in spite of a divorce 6 years ago... all I do is pay premiums.

There's an article in this month's AMA magazine warning everyone to recheck their motorcycle policies. A lot of companies are now adding clauses in fine print on motorcycle policies that contradict the entire coverage of the policy, if you should need to file a claim from an accident...stating because it voids it due to the "voluntary risk!"
So...they charge you for a policy, make you think you're covered, have tv commercials that say things like "You're in Good hands..." Etc, take your money for the high premiums they charge, then give you nothing except a finger pointing to the fine print that gets them off the hook. Outrageous!

Unfortunately, many are now finding this out the hard way.

So, my advice, (FWIW), it might be wise to revisit your actual policy, and pay a visit to your agent to verify coverage is actually gonna be there, should you need it, because fraud seems to be growing in the industry. Finding out AFTER an accident is NOT the way to learn the truth.

Just to clear up any mis-conception some may have, I DO have roadside service on my Honda ST through State Farm Ins. No deductable, and would be hauled to nearest available dealer/shop, no charge. This also applies to my vehicles, since they have full coverage, although they are also paid for.
This only applies IF the vehicle/motorcycle, etc. has comprehensive/collision!
My Venturer only has liability, so this does NOT apply.
The catch is: this varies from state to state.
This all was cleared up by my State Farm Ins. agent three days ago.
Again, the major key to the differences whether one actually has roadside service or not for their scoot(thru StateFarm) is dependent on having comp./collision, AND what state you reside in.

            Old dude, low insurance

I have Progressive here in Yuma, $79.00 liability a year. At 66 I figure they figure this old fart on a 35 year old XS11SF ain't gon'a go really, really fast or pop wheelies or burnouts or drag foot pegs or none of that silly stuff - oh if they only knew!
I have roadside with AMA (life member) and AAA. Used AAA once when a carb misbehaved. I have trust in AMA.

I have Progressive Insurance and Progressive Suspension. I have the insurance because their's is the best price I could get. The one time I needed them back in 1985, they paid the bill without any squabble. The shocks, ...meh.
