So that means it was an 80, or 81 most likely right?

You sure on the year 79'?
No I'm not sure it's a 79, I don't see slots in the rotors, thats why I called it a 79, it could be an 80 or 81 also. Looks like the turn signals were removed from the bike and the front reflectors.

The photo is so fuzzy/grainy, it's hard to tell, BUT ...

If you look very closely at the front rotors, it appears they could possibly be slotted ... especially looking at the right side rotor.

Is it a slam dunk? No, but they might, just might, be slotted.

If they are (unless this is a Frankenbike), it has to be an '80 or '81. Not to mention the aforementioned reflectors on the rear shocks.

The 80 had reflectors on the front frame.

That's true, but they could have been removed ... it doesn't appear to have front turn signals either ...

In the real picture, you can pretty clearly see NO slots on the front rotors,
But what could be misconstrued as such is the reflection on the rotors, of the wheel. In the digital copy, its hard to tell, but the real pic, its pretty clear.
So, no slots... what year does that make it? 80?

It could still be anything, but the slots would make it a 80 or 81 Special. 79 Special had no slots.

But then we still have the problem of the reflectors on the rear shocks ...

The '79 Special didn't have slotted rotors, but it also did not have reflectors on the rear shocks ...

But you're right, Marty, we still don't know what year it is ...

                          Frankenbike, maybe??

I thought only '81's had the slotted rotors. I though '80's had the non slotted as well.

The '80 Specials definitely did have slotted rotors from the factory ...
