  • Serendipity

Webster defines serendipity as : the phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.

A few weeks ago I posted that it was getting time for me to hang up my spurs. http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41845

I really wanted to find someone who would care for my three bikes as much as I have. Low and behold, Eastcoaster (Gordon) wrote and said he had lost his two XS!!'s in hurricane Sandy and was interested in picking up my three and the load of parts I had accumulated over the years. We struck a good deal for both of us and he came down Wednesday (beautiful day for a trip) and picked up the first load (two bikes and a truck full of parts). What a great guy. If he lived closer I would have found him earlier and might still be wrenching on those XS11s.

A couple of pictures from Wednesday. Still can't figure out how to post the individual pictures from Picasa. Can't seem to find the link to make [img] [/img] work.

Anyway, that feels like serendipity in operation.

A quick word about this forum. You guys are the best. Brought a couple back to life and kept them running because of you. I will always read the XS11 posts because the lessons learned here work for almost any other vintage machine. Did a couple of Hondas and still have an old Kawasaki Police Bike that I lowered enough so I can still ride it around the neighborhood or in a parade when I get a wild hair.

    Thanks again,

    A Great Day

A great day Doug is a great guy. I am looking forward to getting down again next week. I could have stayed all day and talked bikes all day. Doug has a great passion for bikes. Hope to get the specials up and running soon. Thinking I would like to trailer both back down and get Doug out for a ride! I hope to continue a friendship with Doug for years to come. What a good day.

        Hi Doug,
so hang a sidecar on the Kawi?
then you can carry the beauty queen in parades (or the guy in the clown suit at Halloween or Santa at Christmas)
Or load the chair up with your fishing gear and a cooler full of beer anytime.
And while I have no idea if this factor fits in with your lifestyle, a sidecar is a also a great chick magnet.

Way past needing a chick magnet. The gray hair, lowered hairline, and fatherly conversation gets them every time.

I had a sidecar on a Moto Guzzi for about 15 years. Fun but takes some shoulder to muscle it around corners. Loved to fly the side hack with my Bluetick Coonhound aboard wearing a white scarf.

          Thanks for the suggestion, though.
