Sent Her Off To Paint

As some of you know, I sold my FZR600 for the cash to finish my '79. After 6 months of building I'm approaching the end. I did some mockups in photoshop to show everyone what the paint job will look like. I love the lines of the standard tank so much that I wanted to keep the original look but update the color scheme a few decades. It looks much like the venture tank does but I bit more subtle in the color choice (so it doesn't look like penguin). The thicker line is actually going to be a black pin stripe to break up the color change. Let me know what you think! Yes, the side covers aren't going to have the original badges...don't hate me.

Umm . . . It's not necessarily the paint that makes it modern or not. It's the lines of the bike. And, there is not many paint options you could do in the "original" scheme that would modernize the bike. Now, if you take a look at Pastor Jared's project "TheRev", his bikw in my opinion looks more modern with his paint scheme. The Yamaha paint schwme will never look modern.

I think the color scheme does contribute to the look of an era. You can give it an "old school" look by keeping the original lines without painting it for example...macho maroon...

I disagree. Look at the new Triumph Bonneville's, and whatever other retro bikes there are out there. Even without paint, they still look "retro" for a reason: engine design, tank, side covers, etc. The seat and tail piece will help you tremendously. If you stay with Yammy lines, you'll stay in the 70's.

Metallic Silver (I think he's throwing a little metal flake in there) with a nice two-part glossy clear coat on it. I don't do flat-anything colors. They have their place but are a bit overused.

I see what you mean though...my tank will look almost exactly like the venturer tank but just different colors.

we were actually talking with Mike(your painter) about your scheme....if you're going to paint your carbs red, then you could get red pinstripe on tank and covers...JAT

I think it will look pretty snazzy with that exhaust color. Real eye catcher!

Thinking the tank painted metal-flake silver with white insert will jazz the bike up a lot. Should be a pretty dramatic change. Looking forward to the pics.

White, just like I photoshopped in on the photos. Should come out looking almost exactly like that.
