Well, I think it's one thing that WOULDN'T go back original if I was doing a restore on one. That's plumb stupid.

The chrome golf cart badges are easy to heat and bend to fit the tank though. I did it on the Green Hornet and they turned out like factory. I'm pretty sure I have another new set of those around here too.

My SG is trimmed all over in chrome and polished aluminum. Yet....the badges are gold. Go figure.

By contrast my XS650 Heritage Special is trimmed in chrome and has chrome badges.

Good point. However, the side cover badges on the MNS are gold just like the SG.

The reproductions are gold. I'm not so sure about the originals. Somebody on here must have one of these parked under their nose and can clear this up.

The MNS had chrome tank badges, and I think the side cover emblems were chrome also. I bought an MNS tank from a member, and it had a gold gas cap and chrome emblems. They are now on my bike. It seems I remember someone here saying that the MNS did have chrome emblems, and the other models had gold emblems. dpotter, or Pat Kelley would know.

I have an 80 MNS and it has chome emblems. I have also had good luck with Speed and Sport ( pretty high priced parts ) but allways got genuine yamaha motorcycle parts. When I get back to SD I will check out my "New" chrome xs11 special emblems I recently purchased from them. I would hope the part number will tell the true story. Will post the results whether good or another lesson learned.......

I have an 80 Midnight and the stock tank emblems are gold with letters extending below the background. Likewise my SF and SG altho' I can't verify the provinence on the SG.

My LG had the chrome emblems. I swapped them with the gold emblems from my E.

Not on any of the MNS that I had Greg. I have had 6 or more of them and the tank and side cover badges were all silver.

The plot thickens!!!! I see that the golf cart emblems (chrome) are available on Ebay. I suspect finding the side cover emblems in silver would be quite the chore?

You can buy OEM SG/SH badges in gold. Reproduction Midnight Special side cover badges are available in what appear to be gold. Doing it that way might be incorrect, but it will look just dandy!

Here's the link to get the chrome tank badges directly from boats.net Mike.

When I did the SF with chrome I just took some old cover badges and painted them with chrome paint and cleared them over. You have to look pretty close to tell if you do a good job.

                        Hi Greg,

Thanks for the heads up. The price for one is $4.04 from boats.net. I have seen the same p/n emblem on Ebay from several sellers for $35.00 for 2??? The chrome may be correct for the MNS, but I too like the gold/black better.

                        Buyer beware!

Ken's post simply stated that all MNS got chrome badges. All Standard models got gold badges, square headlight and guages, but round mirrors. All Special models, non MNS, got gold badges, round headlight and guages, but square mirrors.

I have a set of MNS side covers on my SH. The emblems are silver. I do not know what year they are from.
