The wonders of Pine-Sol

As to Pine Sol, looking at ingredients it has acid in it, so probably strips some of the finish off, I also noticed copper colored deposit on walls of the dip tank...

I tried the Pine Sol dipping technique to clean the carbs but the acid in it stripped the protective finish on the carbs, made them porous and more prone to corrosion. It did clean them and changed the color, but in order to stop the propensity to corrode I had to find something to stop that process.
I needed an alkaline to neutralize the effect of the corroding acid. After some research I found that vinegar would neutralize that. I soaked the rack in vinegar and that did the trick.

All I know is that I took the carbs from my current project, and put them into my USC with Pine-Sol in it and they came out clean as can be. I m sure I rinsed them out with water, and dried with compressed air. So far, they look great. That was in mid December.

I also took the set form the GSX600 I worked on over the summer and soaked them in Pine-Sol, I did not break the rack down so no USC. That set also came out nice, clean and looked great when I sold the bike a month later.
