JAT, when I remove my SF's engine, for repainting of the frame, I'll most likely run rods through the mount bosses and hang it from the rafters so it can be easily accessed, top to bottom.
I know crazySteve built a metal engine stand, it's in one of his posts, if your looking for ideas.

Paint one side and roll it over when dry and paint the other side. I did this and it came out ok, YMMV.2H7 (79) owned since '89

+1. Having had the engine out and moved it around, I can tell you it is a heavy pig of an engine. I am not sure how you folks are getting your engines that high up off the floor. Maybe I am getting older than I thought, but lifting that engine by hand is not an option for me these days.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Don- I'm 28, full of pee & vinegar, and that engine is too heavy for me! I used the ratcheting straps on my 750 to lift it.1979 XS1100F

hahaha, when I picked up my newest bike, I brought ramps to push it on pick up bed....brakes were frozen shut so no way that would work....
guy I bought it from was handicap, so he couldn't help....I'm thinking I'm stuck....
He calls a couple of scrunny kids over, they pick it up without my help and THROW it on my pick up!!!
