Look at it this way buddy, the bike now has a good home where it'll be properly taken care of and now you'll have more time and money for the other bikes that are constantly used.

Lord knows they could use some TLC.

            Limie Accent

Limie has been safely transported from Oklahoma to Georgia all in the same (long) day. Now I have something else to be thankful for. I am a proud new owner and I am honored that Tod has allowed me to be the new caretaker of one of Bob's signature XS1100 classics. This bike means a lot to a lot of people and I respect that.

            Let the fun begin!

                Starting to Check it Out

Limie Accent is now nestled in the state of Georgia and seems to be pretty happy so far.

Started looking her over to see what she is going to need. So far, I've found that both fuel petcocks leak with bike turned off. Limie is a 1978E but has the 1981H (Venturer) tank on it. One carb is weeping into the air box. I've ordered two petcock rebuild kits. Will be removing carbs to see what they need.

I am going to go over all of the mechanicals ultimately. Needs some brake (hydraulic) attention as front brake lever makes full travel without applying brakes. I will replace all of the lines as well with ss.

Appearance wise, I intend to keep it looking the same as it has always been since Bob built it.

Limie is running and sounds stronger than normal. Don't know what all, if anything, Bob may have done to enhance the horsepower output, but engine has very quick throttle response.

Limie Accent will be in good running order sooner than later. I intend to put a few miles on her, but not too many. We'll see how that works out?

                Mike

The 78 engines are the quickest of the family. The 79 engine I have in my SG would run circles around the original 80 engine. I know the Navy Bike and I believe the Street Sleeper have the 1196 BB kits. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if Limie does too.

                  Maybe Tod knows.

Nope.. don't have a clue, but when Jeremy bought it, it only had like 5k miles on it and only had 8500 on it when Mike bought it, so I doubt someone would bore a brand new motor.

My thinking is that it has the Jardine 4-1 exhaust and it's simply been tuned correctly for it. I'd be interested to see what the jetting is when you pull the carbs. We pulled the carbs and swapped the airbox getting it ready after Jeremy bought it, but I don't guess we bothered looking at them.

                      Limie Accent Arrival

Limie's arrival in Georgia from Memphis last Saturday around midnight. I've won the "Hauley Award" in the past, so this was a piece of cake.

One word of caution with that Jardine exhaust...I bought the very same exhaust the last one Karla Jones had to sell after Bob had passed away. I mounted it on my XJ and while it had decent sound it did have ground clearance issues on anythinh mildly agressive in right handers...pipes will grind into the pavement...I was surprised just how easily it did so...plus while Jardine's are generally known for being a good quality exhaust this particular model was the cheapest Jardine for our bikes ever made. Not sure why Bob Jones liked using that one so much...
So Mike my advice is that you ride it as it was intended...as a street bike in cafe' trim and not so much as a sport-toring twisty rooad corner carving monster...LOL
So as much as we all would love to see it at the XS SE rally..it may not be the best choice to ride the roads that we ride?

Heres a pic...the way the header pipes run along so close to the bottom frame rail is why there are clearance issues when mildly leaned over...plus where the header pipes fit into the muffler portion they just wedge to gether...no bracket or clamp to hold it together...

Jeremy rode it like he stole it and never scraped the pipes. At least not that I know of.

well I'd like to see how the pipes are routed on Limie...perhaps they are closer to the midline of the bike than mine were...BUt i recall DuWayne had a set on one of his bikes...and he too experienced this "issue"

Could be that 78 sits a little higher with the 17" rear tire and Jeremy was only about 110 -120 dripping wet.
