Loud Horns

I will give Yamaha credit for trying to improve the horn (noise) from the road runner sounding single that was installed on the 1979SF (Special) to the dual horns on the Standards and Venturers in later years.

But , I have recently installed a real horn on my Venturer - The Stebel Nautilus.

This horn and "loud" have a lot in common. When energized, it sounds more like a truck than a bike.

I am really interested in seeing the results that I get with it.

I was looking at that Harbor Freight horn. It says it draws like 40 amps? Basically everything my bike makes at full charge. I figure I'd hit the horn button and stall my bike? lol.

I've had this horn on a few of my bikes...139 dB will wake up any brain dead cager...just make sure the horn is mounted in the vertical position...that is with the trumpets facing down...there is a little motor with an impeller that if mount horizontally will not function right and will cause considerably early failure...
Also you need a dedicated wiring harness and relay...do not use the bikes wiring as the horn does draw alot of current and will fry the bikes wires...

I have horns from an F150 on my SG. Peoples eyes get real big and they jerk their vehicle back into their own lane when they start drifting over on me and I hit the button.

Yes, I have wired this horn so as it is drawing directly off of battery through a relay. Has it's own wire harness totally separate from the bike.

I checked the specs, the volume output is 118db, not 126.
The Stebel Nautilus "Compact" is rated at 115 db at 2 meters(6feet) and 139 db at 4 inches! It's rated for 12 or 24 volts, draws 18 amps at 12 volts, 9 at 24 volts.

The Harbor Freight/Wolo BadBoy #419 brand says it can use the existing vehicles wiring....auto, bike, etc.. Their bigger louder horn (BadBoyMax) comes with a 30 amp relay, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't use/draw 30 amps, they usually use a relay that is rated a bit higher than the required current that it will be handling. And the Owner's/Installation manual I just reviewed for the Regular Bad Boy says to use a 20 amp FUSE when using the Relay, so that jives with the Stebel's rated 18 amps!

I put on a set of the FIAMM El Grande Twins #74100, rated at 130 db / 4 inches, so very close to the BadBoy/Nautilus, only draw 10 amps, I still wired them with a RELAY so give the full battery power to them for the best volume, and they are only ~$20.00 on Amazon vs. the ~$40.00 for the Wolo/Nautilus clone.

I did the same as TC and got the FIAMM El Grandes. Very happy with them.

Standards are supposed to have two horns??

I only have one, and only that one mounting point

Spark- I can only attest to my F having one horn as well. I know I see pics of certain bikes with two, but I'm almost positive the early Standards came with one.

I am pretty sure that is true. My E only had one as well.
