Well I have taken a bike down to the bare frame and back to a running bike in the last couple of years so I may go down to the frame on this one also and powder coat the frame and just get the bike back to a much better place.

Here is a better pick of the XS. It does have a lot of rust and sorry if I offend but the Vindicator fairing and the Saddleman seat.

He emailed me back once I sent him his registration confirmation, and gave some more details. It was NOT run without oil. He didn't know that the site glass window was to be viewed with the bike upright...just saw it was EMPTY while on the sidestand, the guy pushed it upright and he had oil show in the window...I explained this in a rather lengthy reply I sent to him about the systems he'll want to tackle....electrical, fuel, brakes, etc.!

Glad to see you on here Chris, and that you're experienced with this kind of work. This bike won't be like your modern big machine, but like an old muscle car, it's still lots of fun!!!

Sounds like you have an interesting project. Though too many of these great machines ended up in that condition.

Probably have or had some of that rusty gas down in the crankcase too. I drained about 6 qts out of mine (crankcase) when I got it. 3 oil and 3 gas. Hopefully yours was just emptied out recently and not driven with little or no oil. Good Luck with the adventure.

Hello,
My name is Chris and I have a problem.
I'm a motorcycle addict!
Okay now on to the good stuff.
I just bought a rather mis-treated 1979 XS1100F. It has been sitting for some time and from what i understand the previous owners rode the bike with a completely rusted gas tank. They have bypassed the petcocks somehow since they don't turn off.
The carb boots ar split and they have covered them in goo and from what I can tell the last owner drove it with literally no oil.

But I did find the kick starter and it does move so hopefully that is a good sign.

Everything will have to be pulled and cleaned and rebuilt before I can even attempt to start it because I can see the fuel that is in there is brown from rust.
I have just finished building a custom cafe racer out of a 1981 CB750K and this will be my next project.

Look forward to getting a lot of information here.
