      Thank you
Excellent!!! I love it when a bike comes back to life. From the looks of things you now need to work on the WHOA, meaning the brakes. Seeing both front calipers tied up would indicate they were locked up and needed to come off to move the bike.

Yes it came to me like that. The rear brake sounds like my ex wives voice, so I will tear it down also. The front master cylinder is dry and from your guys past experience and from theory.....the brake fluid absorbed moisture for the last thirty years, leaked out and the water left behind seized the calipers and master? If thats the case, are they rebuildiable, or are these items on the just replace the brake system?

However if the rust is bad enough they may have gotten too far gone. Good time to invest in S/S brake lines as well.

Welcome aboard. Another issue with these bikes that comes up from time to time is clutch slippage. If the bike set for a long time it is possible to have build up of some light rust within the plates of the clutch. It can cause slippage or grabbing causing you to have to change adjustments. Its not a big deal to take off and clean just do a search in the forum for clutch and get a good understanding first. TC has a pretty good pictorial of the dissasembly.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

The brake system is very simple. The caliper has a seal that sits in a groove. When the brakes are applied, the piston sort of rolls the seal, and the seal brings the piston with it when it rolls back as the brake is released.

So, you will want to get the pistons out, remove the seal, and clean the groove really well. Sometimes the pistons themselves can get very pitted. Those may need replacing.

The rubber parts are typically reusable. Just need a good cleaning. Who knows if they have been dry since 86 though.

On the MC, there are two holes from the reservoir to the cylinder. One supply and a smaller return hole. Both need to be cleaned.

Thanks, I worked on that bike for almost 2 years, but It was worth it. Just so everyone else knows what bike we're talking about.

I used "PJ1 Coatings Fast Black engine and case paint". I purchased it from Z1 Enterprises at this link. I used a total of 2 cans.

                  Hi Robert,
first, before you spend any money, make sure you have a clear title.
Next, while 27 years old is real good for a girl, a 27 year old tire is a hardened brittle ruin of a thing that you shouldn't ride on.
Take another $250 and buy baby a new pair of boots.

The first thing I did was contact DMV and find out if I could even get a title, they gave me an 'affidavit to establish financial interest in a vehicle', and said there would be no problem, being I provide a bill of sale. Sounded to good to be true but after asking a few car wholesalers, they said it is that easy here in Oregon. I still have my doubts, but will find out soon enough.
I have picked out tires, ss brake lines, pads, needles and seats have also picked out accel coils, because I remember spark issues with my RD and coils cured that....just waiting to slow down in my shop to get affidavit notorized.

One thing about these KS owners.....you guys must really like working on carburetors Do all of you install inline fuel filters? Because I imagine everything will be attracted to get hung up in the seat and let the fuel just flow and flow.

                      YES on the inline filters!

I'm not sure what I'm more jealous of, the steal on the bike or that awesome shop you've got to work in.
+1, definitely get the title worked out before you drop a dime on anything else.

                          Great buy!

Do you have to have the bike physically inspected, or just provide the paper work, in order to get title?

I was told the affidavit is all that is needed. It does make sense to need an inspection, just no one has brought that up yet.
