They work great with high output aftermarket coils, not so well with the stockers, YMMV

Good thing I don't have stock coils.

I love the concept of how it works, I know the shop set mine using header temp... I just don't feel that is enough.
I want to actually SEE what I'm doing.

My experience with it (stock coils) is u cannot really understand what's going on after a certain point. it's like "do I see orange?" I have them tuned to a decent spot (not perfect), and that's where they'll stay for now. I'd love to get my bike on a dyno and have them tuned according to the graph. I know Scott hooked a lean/rich meter to the pipes (via an O2 sensor) and tuned them accordingly. Not sure how accurate that is, as an O2 sensor was only in one header. I'd actually like to do that again.

Well I finally got the bike in time at idle using a timing light. It was at least a quarter of an inch off from the F line.

Still waiting on my colortune to get here.

Here id the hitch to the colortune. You can not set the plug gap on it, it is set at the factory, done. So you will notice that it will not hit 100% of the time, some missing does occur.

The way I always adjust with it is to take the mixture screw out till I go from blue to a good yellow flame. Then hit the gas a little, let it idle up and then back down, when it settles should still be yellow flame. Now turn the screw in till you just start getting all blue flame, back the screw out about 1/4 turn.

A better way to tune is by max vacuum if you have good gauges or carb sticks. It is not a big change, but you can see it change as you tune. Then re-synch the carbs.

No matter what method you use, I still recommend to look at the plugs after a few hundred miles and adjust on what you see on the plugs.

The problem with the Colortune as far as I can see is it is useless beyond the idle mixture adjustment.

Your much better off with a decent set of vacuum gauges and some knowhow and understanding of how the carbs work. That's free and available to all.

No magic tool other than some basic knowhow.

I have a Morgan carb tune. The problem is, I cannot see the change, the sticks hop around too much for me to see the pilot adjustment.

And yes... I have the tool setup correctly with the little orifices inserted into the line where the manual says.

My merc stixs have done that when there was a low voltage to the coils down at an idle......JAT.

That's a good point. I think I synced it to my old oe coils.

The shop synced it with the new coils, I wonder if it'll be smoother...

                        Well,

Colortune got here today..I had this WHOLE thing recorded on video, but the gopro overheated and froze, making the file corrupt...

They mailed it in a bubble envelope..I ordered it from morgan.
The box was flat on arrival, and the contents were strewn around.

I went to cylinder one first.
Plenty of spark, no fire. Well, thats odd I thought...ill get back to it thinking its just too light outside..

                        Went to cyl 2.
                        Saw color instantly.
slightly rich, evened it out to blue with a hint of orange.

                        cyl 3, same deal

                        cyl 4, same.

                        Went back to 1,
Figured out itll only ignite the cylinder when revved higher...which makes the backfire which is what I've been chasing.....meaning bad coil.

Funny thing is, that's a MikesXS black coil...only 2.2k on it. FAIL coil!

Might as well splurge and get some of the Dyna coils..

Anyone gotta good price check on em?

On ebay....the Dyna coils are only 120$ for the pair???? With a 1 year warranty...

If I looked at that better earlier, I wouldnt have gotten the mikesXS coils.

I thought it was 120 PER coil.
