Cant wait to receice delivery of my new Colortune 500 I picked up on ebay. I couldnt pass the opportunity up, it has the nice hard case and eveything delivered for less than $40. Im curious to see what I will find once I hook it up.
"What they do have is an implacable, unrelenting presence and movement that bespeaks massive power lurking behind paint and chrome. They don't wail like a screeching ninja, the don't rumble like a harley. They just growl like a spactic, stressed out badger waiting to rip your face off and eat your soul." Trainzz~RIP~
You will find that it probably works ok if you have aftermarket coils, not so well with the weaker OEM units. Use it in the evening with low light, much easier. JMHO
Thanks for the advice Phil. I plan on getting Accel coils eventually.
Im interested to see how much the burn changes based on ambient temperature. Early in the season it little lean when in the 40's but seems right on when the temps improve to about 60F. I'd be more confident in making changes for cold weather with this tool. Next on the list is a Carbtune. Or just finish making my home-made version.

From my expereince, the colortune is a great tool to get you in the right field of the ball park. It often will have a miss to it. You can tune to the right color, but it still needs fine tuning.
I always get the flame in the rich/yellow area, then tur the fuel down till it is getting a nice bunsen blue, then back out about 1/4 turn toward yellow. But I still look at my plugs to fine tune it, and the vacuum readings on the morgan.

Mine does too after I use it for a while. I fill it up with carb cleaner and scrub the hell out of the insides with a tiny wire brush and it works good again after that.
I gotta say, my first impression of this thing is it seems flimsy and cheap (tube and mirror). Im glad I didn't buy one at full price. It should work fine as long as I dont get too ham handed with it.

I rarely use mine, which was left over from an old MGB my wife had (really crappy car). It is hard to see in daylight even with strong coils so here is what I did.
Take a piece of 1" plastic conduit or pipe about 12" long and cut a slot up one side to allow the spark extension to pass through. Start the motor and when ready to view the Colortune, place the conduit over the plug and look into the top. Makes a nice, dark tunnel to see the flame.

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

You should really only be using that to get the threads started. With our 11s there is no need for the mirror.
