More than likely, what you bought is XS650. I say that because there are so many more of them than any other XS motorcycle.

most likely your unknown switch is for a North American bike where the headlights turn on automatically when the engine starts and bikes don't have the pass switch feature.

My connectors look like this,
There are two six pin connectors, one male and one female. It may turn out that I have to get this unit rewired professionally. My 'unknown' unit has two connectors, both female, one six pin and the other four pin.Automotive Imbecile.

I found a couple of wires that had come away from the solder so I've fixed my existing unit. I still want to sell the mystery switch though.Automotive Imbecile.

I thought I might post this because the problem I had wasn't immediately apparent. I ran a multimeter between the indicator terminals in the switch block and the terminals at the end of the wiring loom and all appeared to be fine. It wasn't until I actually pulled the unit down that it became obvious that both indicator wires has broken free of their solder points. They were still touching prior to pulling them down hence the multimeter test pass. I re soldered both wires and the switch block is now as good as new. Here are some pics.
And finally, all fixed.
Just goes to show that with these old machines, you have to really go deep sometimes in order to find the problems.

The six and four layout makes it a '78-79 type switch; you probably have the two extra wires due to your 'pass' switch.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

But should both the six pin and four pin connectors both be female? My unit has a six pin male and female. If I find out for sure what it is, I'll offer it for sale.
