Looks kinda slow to me, especially if he were to light up all the lights and sirens, he'd probably fall back to due poor ignition performance from the low voltage to the CDI from the power drain. I think I could outrun it!!

Have they done anything different with the charging system?
We all know that these bikes are notoriously under powered in regards to the charging system.
I always wondered if the Police bikes had a different stator or something.
Can you tell if it is any different than ours??

Usually there are some differences with police editions.

Kaw had a 4 across 'police' edition of the 1100. Looked like the regular 1100 but the engine was actually a 1000cc. Probably a detuned or reconfigured 1100 for longevity.

I bet they added some charge to that XS charger, not unusual in police edition vehicles. I owned a Ford LTD police car bought at an auction years ago. It had a huge battery and a monster alternator compared to the regular LTD. Or maybe Queensland's finest just bought a new battery each month.

Alternater re-wind

Strom, I would like more info on the rewind, when you have a few minutes. We have a good starter/generator house locally, but I wouldn't have a clue as to what to ask for.

I have never heard of that. And I never had trouble with the charging system.

Charging system is ok for normal use, but trying to add extra lights can lead to problems. Several past threads on this subject, search "charging system" or "alternator" to see them.

Some of the Goldwing guys are using a Chevy alternator and many years ago I saw an endurance racer that was set up to use one too. I suppose this conversion could be done on an XS11.

Just tell them that you'd like some more power out of the unit, they'll fill you in on the rest.
The point is, how many times is the wire spun.
If they have to do it manually, its a bit more expencive, but don't worry....
It doesn't hurt to ask. And they probbably should know stuff like that.

Hi all
I noticed in the o/s models a"P" version and it suggests that that model was for police use in Oceania. is it possible that an electronics upgrade was built in by Yamaha to accomodate the extra power draw
