  • A rare welcome to a new member.

As I recently posted in another thread, I get to add a few new members to the site every day, and I don't want any of them to feel slighted with this post, but I wanted to publicly welcome a new member because of special conditions.

This member is Hammerhead2nd. That username will probably be familiar to many on here because HammerHead1st was a member(Greg) that we lost 4 years ago to a tragic accident. His son Justin inherited his 79F machine and applied for registration tonight. We have a few other members who inherited their bikes from their fathers who have also passed on, and the bike is a strong emotional tie with their father, either from just riding on it with them, to even working on it with them, etc.!

I lost my father over 10 years ago, and I did NOT have any big common bonds with him having grown up essentially without him, but here I am wiping away tears as I type this. But I consider this XS11 community an extended family of sorts, and so I'm hoping that Justin will come to know and consider "US" also as additional new family members as well.

Welcome to the site and to your new XS11 "family" !

Always great to get new members! Having the history behind your bike like that is always cool, fact it belonged to your departed father is really awesome.

I recently got an antique pocket watch that has been in my family for four generations up and running. My dad was not into bikes. I know the watch itself is not worth much, but it is worth every penny I spent on the parts and oils and such to me to have it working to hand down to my son some day.

Enjoy the bike and we will do all we can to help you keep riding the rubber off it.

            Welcome, Justin

It's really nice to see you carry on this tradition of wrenching, riding and respecting the past. The connection to your father is special and I'm sure warms the hearts of us all.

TC, thanks for telling us this story, and sharing a bit of yours.

Welcome Justin. Your dad was always a very fine contributing member and is remembered by most of us, who were members while he was alive. I hope you will also join in the antics of the asylum and find yourself to be taken with it as so many others are. I am sure your dad would be proud to know you are trying to keep the heritage strong. Looking forward to your posts!
