plastic bag got onto my hot exhaust. Anybody got an easier way of getting melted plastic off of exhaust other than carefully scraping it off with a razor blade?

I have removed melted shoe and melted rainsuit from my exhaust with MEK. I soak a rag with it and lay it on the offensive debris. I comes right off. I assume you know the safety drill when using MEK.

I have used nail polish remover to get a melted bread bag off of the toaster. I think it contains Acetone.

Butanone, also known as methyl ethyl ketone or MEK, is an organic compound with the formula CH3C(O)CH2CH3. This colorless liquid ketone has a sharp, sweet odor reminiscent of butterscotch and acetone. It is produced industrially on a large scale, and also occurs in trace amounts in nature.[2] It is soluble in water and is commonly used as an industrial solvent.

You don't want this stuff on your skin or in your lungs. It's not good for you:

Butanone is an irritant, causing irritation to the eyes and nose of humans,[6] but serious health effects in animals have been seen only at very high levels. When inhaled, these effects included birth defects.[7]

With shoe rubber and such I've always used Simichrome, a soft cloth, and some elbow grease. I'd get what you could off carefully with the razorblade first though.

I'm a lazy ass and I don't like scrubbing or standing on my head to do it.

MEK is getting hard to find it seems. I have seen a "MEK Substitute" but never tried It.
