    Hey Greg, a little tip.
MEK evaoprates quicker than a new brides desire for sex.
So take a paper towel and fold it so that it will cover the part you want to soak. Take a larger piece of Saran Wrap and cover the paper towel. Now pour enough MEK between the Saran Wrap and the pipe, until the towel is soaked. Cover the towel and let it soak. You can hold the Saran Wrap on with rubber bands.
In the interest of full disclosure, I don't use Saran Wrap, but rather the Albertson's "or equal", clear plastic wrap. Try a drop or two of MEK on what ever you have, to make sure that it doesn't desolve.
    And NO HUFFING. CZ

Laquer thinner on a rag. Lest that worked for me with boot rubber and a little chrome polish after.

        Stop shopping at WalMart?

Non-chlorinated brake cleaner and a rag works really good to, with hardly any rubbing.

Be careful with the mek. Volatile Organic Compounds can cause lots of nasty effects. Cancer, emphysema, nerve damage, sterility, kidney failure, liver failure, just to name a few. Use a respirator with appropriate chemical cartridges.

I do hazardous waste work. I tend to think in industrial terms. Methyl Ethyl Keytone is by no means safe, and you should be reading the MSDS.

I never suggested it was safe. You obviously did not read anything I posted. I asked where you came up with "

High quality non water soluable paint removers will loosen it and you can use paint thinner or minneral spirits on a course rag to wipe it off. I would steer clear of using any steel wool or scrub pad as the chrome on new pipes is so thin it takes nothing to damage it.
Make sure you have good airflow all fumes are bad fumes.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.

I'd warm up the pipes to soften the bag properties as well. Just a thought.

I have used oven cleaner with success also. Works even better, quicker, if pipes are warm. Do not get it on aluminum. Big spots quick...

Blue Job, an expensive chrome cleaner available at many MC shops, cleans even discolored pipes.

Abrasive pads or metal polish cleaners will scratch & dull the chrome, Blue Majic is about the least abraisive metal polish (even polishes plexiglass).

It didn't work Marty. I ended up just scraping it off as best I could and hoping it'll just eventually disappear.

0000 steel wool wont even touch it.

Sorry guy, what I meant was, I'm overly safety conscience. On the shelf MEK will not hurt you bad if you use it down wind and for a short period of time. Please understand, I live in the land of Hanford where people glow in the dark. I'm trained in Hazardous Waste Cleanup and they pound safety into us all the time. I was actually expecting someone to call me on using the MSDS because those will be phased out soon and we in America will be reformatting our MSDS to reflect the MDS like the rest of the world uses. Funny huh? They really pound us hard with safety. MEK from Home Depot will not kill you, but for crying out loud wear a respirator with a chemical cartridge, lol!

I'm very surprised at that. My XS650 has pipes that are a challenge to stay off of. I've removed melted shoe sole, rainsuit, and synthetic fabric cover, all with MEK.
