Front fork air valve

My front fork on the clutch side will not take air. It also will not push air out to tell how much is in it, wich is very little and that is probably why, but i can hear air come out every time i push on the vavle. How much is supposed to be in there and what would make it not take air? I think the other side has 25psi in it. Thanks.

Probably a bad valve, Yamaha doesn't have them any more, but the early 80's Suzuki's used the same forks and valves are still available from the dealers.

The valve core has a little stem that sticks up in the center, the one you push down to let air out. The pressure gauge has a little stem in the center that depresses the valve core stem to let air into the gauge. If the core stem or the gauge stem are recessed to much, due to compressed seal, or manufacturing tolerances, or to thick a gasket in the gauge, they don't compress enough to work. Try a different gauge, or replace the core in the fork and try again.
You will notice that the air chuck also has a depressor in it, to depress the core stem when you are putting air in.
My bet is that the core is defective, and I would start there. CZ

I was thinking that maybe that valve core could be bad, i will try there first. What pounds do you guys run in your forks.?

Ya don't need much at all. 10 lbs is usually plenty for a one-up. don't even try to use an air compressor! Use a small hand pump if ya have one. I used one for inflating bicycle tires.

Nowadays I use a heavier weight oil and Progressive springs. No need to use air at all.

I run 14psi with a full dresser setup.
