  • WTF is this??

Ever seen anything like this before? 2-yr old tire, 2000 miles on it. PLENTY of tread left. Sidewalls are fine. It's not isolated cracking, it's all over the tire. Bridgestone S11 Spitfire

Overheating maybe? BTW, tire has already been renewed.

Former owner, but I have NO PARTS LEFT!

    Date Code???

Are you going by the date code on the sidewall or when you purchased it?
If it's by the date code, I think I'd get back to the place you bought it from for possible replacement..Just sayin'

@Tv5150: date code. Independent shop = screwed. Bridgestone told me go pound sand.

@marty - possible, but not long term. I'm pretty anal about those things.

Man, that sucks, guess I need to start doing a pre-mounting inspection on all tires when I receive them...

There was nothing wrong with this tire when purchased, bike was always stored indoors. Two years later, this cracking shows up.

being in NY I wouldnt think youd be riding in winter, but could they have been riden through any chemical exposure daily, other than salt?

I second the Avon part, mine is going into its third season and is showing sign of checking at the root of the tread... Luckily the tire is nearing the end of its life. I think its due to the rubber losing plasticisers... the greater the exposure to light/sun will increase its loss...

I don't know, I run the same tire on the rear of mine and haven't seen that even in the hot summer here, but I only get about 1 1/2 years out of the rear tire on mine (mileage is good, that's just how many miles I've been getting.

I don't know if it's simply a bad batch or what, but it's not just Bridgestones. I've had Dunlops, Avons, and just now, a Shinko do the same thing with all being within a year or two of the date stamp. It makes me wonder if I simply got a tire made on a Monday morning right after a holiday or one on Friday before one? lol.

Could it have possibly been road chemicals. I ran thew calcium cloride one time that did that same damage to my tires. Some idiot was dumping it on a dirt road and at the end doing a U turn onto the highway.
To fix the problem one should not make more assumptions than the minimum needed.
