Congratulations on the passing of the safety course and getting your endorsement!

I took the basic riders course 2 years ago. It was a 16 hour course, but was needed for me. Husband laughed when I said I could get my license ... so took the written permit test then the Safety Course, since the only riding I had ever done was behind him for 18 years. The cost of our course was $150 (unlike Ohio for $25) well worth every penny I will admit!

          Ride safe and enjoy!

            Specials

There isn't an "off" position on the standards. You have to get the petcocks right and/or the floats right or you're in a heap of s**t. As for the specials, I would for sure keep the vacuum valve in the bike and working just because I like to do things right.

You can easily make an off position on the standards buy filing off the little tab on the petcock faceplate so you can rotate the lever all the way up. It may rub the edge of the tank, but you can grind a little off the lever for the clearance.

Jeff, I bet that beast (1100) was fun on the course. If I had a choice, I probably would have chose the 750 as it's a little lighter. Anyway, you got 'er done. good deal.

Congrats.. I got an xs11 special a few weeks ago and my wife wont let me ride it until I take the 3 day course. I go out and start her up and read the manual and just drool.. I have an endorsement already but havent been on a bike for 20 years.. My last one was a Honda 750.. Here they wont let me use the xs11.. It's too big.. They provide 250 honda's.. I think you should take the course on what you are going to ride.. but that's just me.. Again, congratulations and stay safe..

I am getting ready to go get my pic took for my endorsement. Had to take off early today cause my permit expires tommorow. The class was $100 her in WV. I thought about using the 750 but i want to get handle bars first cause the buckhorns suck. hey Planedick, those octi's on the specials are just more crap to get in the way and go wrong. The right way is the way with less crap, neater and works.

Congrats on passing the course, especially on an XS11. I did mine on a XJ650 (with straight pipes). I bet that was annoying to everyone else. They all rode Rebels, except one guy on a Super Sherpa.
My Special always had an octy. Started leaking. Bought a kit. Still leaks. I miss it.

                      No probs

I've had the XS for many years and never had any problems with the vac petcocks. Making the changes to make an off position is just for those who don't have the skills to do it right. I'll bet you also rely on duct tape for most of your repairs too... So, how many of you redneck hillbillies do that?

I don't agree with that. I trust the petcocks to seal when the vac is not there. I just don't want to have to deal with the consequences when I am not at home and the crankcase is filled with gas because the diaphragm failed.

Don't knock the duct tape. It's gotten me out of some sticky situations before!

I do agree with nate. It's nice to know 100% that no fuel is going to flow.

I took the advance class on my old ducati superbike a few years ago... It was a kick in the a$$!!!! Every once in a while some of us get together on a Friday after work and ride the license course behind the dmv. Its fun to get 4 or 5 guys together and throw in 5 or 10 bucks and see who does the best. Keeps the skills fresh and its kinda fun.

Congrats on passing the class.... Good to hear all went well.

Why are you using 32 yr old parts? I rebuilt my petcocks with new parts and I also have good floats and new float needle valves for just in case.
