I am going to my MSF course today at 1:00. It is actually a liscense waiver so i dont have to take the driving part at the dmv, after the class they give you a card to show to the dmv (if you pass) that takes the place of the driving part so you can get the full endorsement. Wish me luck.

thanks phil. This is my 2nd bike my other is a 77xs7502d but i only rode it a few times then lucked into the 1100 and havent ridden the 750 but once since then. I havent ridden a whole lot so i am worried about swerving and figure 8's cause i've never tried it in a parking lot or anything. I should have done that. I do ride good (i think), but i've never tried any of the "manuevers". We'll see what happens. I am leaving in a couple of hours, the class is about 30 miles away and we use our own bikes.

You'll be fine. I took my license on the XS11 and had no problem maneuvering into the figure 8's and what not... Even if you are having trouble they coach you through it and if you're struggling they will work with you. GL!

well, just got back and passed. It wasnt bad at all but it was challenging. The figure 8's wasnt as hard as the staggered weaves. It was about a 5 hour class. So, monday, I will go get my regular endorsement, now i just have the learner permit.

            EXCELLENT and Congrats!

It is well worth the Time and small Investment to get Rider training. You made a wise and prudent choice. When operating on two wheels there are just a lot of variables to learn to deal with (conditions, hazards, stupidity, physics etc.) and this ain't like operating a car. Training helps you Spot and Avoid trouble.

I'm really interested in the new MSF study about motorcycle accidents. Think it is due out in 2013 or 2014. A high tech look at eye movements / scanning techniques + riding techniques and why some people are more crash prone than others in spite of training.

So Monday with the endorsement you will be ready to Rally. You gotta be all smiles today

Congrats, great job taking that course on an XS11.

Sounds like your class was very compact from mine. I did 4 hours classroom, then two days 6 hours a day of on the bike training, last day finished with the test. HERE is our requirements.

The place I took my couse is only a mile from my house, so I stop in now and then and go through the course on my XS11, much more challanging than on the Nighthawk 250 I used for the course. (here they provide the bike and helmet).

                MSF Course

Congrats for taking the right step in doing the right thing...
I even took the Advanced Rider's Course back in
01 when I got my 1st GL18 Wing and even after
riding legally since 1967, I learned a few things and
re-enforced what I was practicing all these years
Always try to practice what you learned and
continue to improve your skills you'll develop thru the yrs
NEVER become complacent, especially in the sea
of morons who try to multi-task while driving
and end-up killing innocent people and cycle riders...

Yeah, they have that one too but they said if you have ridden a bike already for a little while you could just got to the brc2 class. 2 of us had only ridden for 2 months and others had been riding a while. I kinda wish i would have taken the other one too. Here it is 2 days, 6 first day and then 10 the next. We were probably on the bike 3/4 of the 5-5.5 hours we were there. We did weaving (3 different types), curves, stopping in curves, clutch control, the "box", wich is the figure 8 in a box, quick stops and tight s curves. Maybe more but it was challenging. The worst thing of all was i was there over an hour early so my bike was cold and not warmed up so on the slow stuff it would want to jerk so i would have to use the clutch a lot. I also need a class in remembering to turn my gas on!lol

As finicky as these bikes are after they have been run for a while and then partially cool down, I understand your issue with running the course on an XS11. As to the fuel thing, well, in the course I took, they give you an acronym "FINE-C" Fuel, Iginition, Neutral, Emergency-Choke. I use before every start from cold, but I would be a liar to tell you I have not stopped somewhere and got on the bike and forgot to turn the petcocks on. Leys just say I am very adept at turning the petcocks on while riding.

                        Petcocks?

The XS has vacuum operated petcocks or other vacuum systems, so why are you fiddling with petcocks?

Maybe it's just me, but they might be referring to when they 1st start their bike from it being parked like overnight or a few days. I'll always turn my p/c's in the off position when parking the bike for a while, never while I'm on & off the bike during a ride around until I return home and tuck the bike in for the night, then it's always in the off postion...
