Paint Scheme
Ya know, when I 1st was it, I thought, what in the world has someone
done to the paint on that bike, but now, everytime I look at it, I can
see the vision like you spoke of it having a tri-five chevy look
The rest of the bike is really in very amazing condition from what I see in the pics...once again, great find at a very reasonable price...Current Rides:

Hey Tat,
Great looking machine for sure. What folks haven't commented on is that those Non-stock carbs are uniquely mounted...the PO appears to have used PVC tubing or such to allow the wrong carb spacing to be adapted to fit onto the XS boots! I also do NOT see the vacuum advance hose going up the side of the engine to the carbs...so the bike may be running only on the Cent. Adv. curve which could also contribute less than optimal throttle response and behavior!? Provided your plugs don't look bleach white, then they probably won't HURT the bike, but your mileage will probably suffer a bit, norm is 30+ MPG, but can vary for a variety of reasons, no vac. adv. input is one of them!

T.C.
I see two rubber lines that run from the inner side of the outboard carbs. Neither is hooked to anything. This these would be the vac advance?Nate

I'm going to borrow Terry's photo:
Looking at the second carb from the right...there is a brass nipple just above in the intake mount....the same location on the other carbs are solid body, THIS is the vac. adv. port that should connect to a hose to the vac. adv. pot inside the left side timing cover.
The other 2 hoses you speak of are connected to "T" fittings mounted between the outside carbs and the inner carbs...higher up on the carb body than the fuel inlet "T"s. These upper hoses are the carb bowl vent hoses, they can be left open to air...but bugs/critters/dirt can get in there. They are normally connected to the nipples on the AIRBOX to both provide venting, and to recollect what miniscule fuel vapors would be emitted back into the intake to be burned! Do NOT cap them off, either connect to the airbox, or put a little fuel filter on the end so they can breath, but not allow stuff to get into the line/carbs! And make sure the nipples on the airbox are also not clogged with dirt/oil, etc.!

What T.C. said, except you do not HAVE the original air box. I WOULD look for a set of carbs, and plan on a rebuild next winter. First thing would be read plugs, and make sure they are NOT white but a light brown. You may need to jet a little on the carbs, and do NOT expect the full range power because they seem to be a bit smaller than the stock set-up, and probably will not flow the correct air/fuel mixture needed at all RPM's.
Send a PM later, and I'll try to get into storage and see what I have available. I know I have at least one extra set of carbs, and I think an airbox as well. They would need work, but if it helps it's an option.
Oh, and don't be surprised when a second bike shows up at your door. These are like potato chips, you can't have just one!Welcome to the madness.

Lol thanks guys. Ill have to go out in a bit and check it out. Im pretty sure the lines I see hanging down are the adv lines youre describing. Theres no T on them.
Hopefully Im going to look at an 80 or 81 a friend knows about this afternoon. Says a guy has had it sitting in his backyard for 10 years and is wanting $150 for it. Could be a good parts bike.Nate

those do appearto be the float bowl vent lines. will not help you with your advance problem. i would assume you could T off of the vacuum supply going to your petcock and use that?
btw those carbs are the same ones my brother has on his 77' CB750. you might be able to sell them to get the money for the proper carbs.1978 XS1100

Well the bike that I went to look at turned out to be a bust. What was supposed to be an xs11 turned out to be a mid 80s Virago 750.Nate

Pulled the carbs off today to try fixing a couple leaks. It was a waste of time. However I did take some pictures to try IDing these carbs. Diverray is sending me a set of carbs and an airbox. Cant wait till they get here. After reassembling everything and seeing how loose the boots are, Im pretty sure the only things the current airbox is keeping out of the carbs is large rodents and birds.

The new seat from Ebay showed up today but its missing a chunk of cowl, so the search for a stock seat continues.
Petcock kits came in last week but I messed up my back pretty bad Tuesday so I haven't been able to put them in yet.
The carbs from Diverray should be here Friday. Cant wait!

That could work for a bit but there is currently no emergency to get the seats swapped. I just dont like the look of the touring seat. I can live with it until I can get this taken care of.
The seller got right back to me and is going to try finding a replacement cowl and send it to me. Hopefully someone on here has a spare they can part with.Nate
