  • See, the issue I see is that regardless what the temp of the fluid was, she knew how hot it was, she had the cup in her hand. It was no surprise to her it was flippin hot. The fact it burned her crotch, well, why was she opening a container of fluid that hot over her groin? If your past 8 yo, you know the lid coming off lets that fluid escape much easier, and it will drop down to whatever is below it. If I am holding something that hot, I would make sure what was below it was not me.

What the information does not say is if she had been getting her coffee from the same place, the same time, every day for months or years like most coffee drinkers do. So she would be even more aware of what she had in her hand.

I do not condemn McDonalds for not paying her medical bills, she had no reason to expect them to pay the bills, no more than I should expect the X-Acto company to pay the bill becuase my son cut his hand with one of their knives, the knife should not be that sharp of course. So I think they were generous on the $800 offer.

    • The way I see it, laws are dreamed up and passed for only two reasons:

To control behavior or to control money...

When the repeal of the helmet law in Indiana was being debated in the 70's, the issue was never about controlling behavior....it was about money. Of course, there were a few Indiana Reps that thought they knew what was best for people, the vast majority were only interested in campaign donations. They did, however respond to constituent pressure, which is the area we focused on. We convinced enough reps that the fight was about personal freedom entwined with education. We had enough backup data to prove that education was more powerful than behavior control.

Harley had no money at the time to help us, and the import manufacturers didn't care about personal freedom...only selling bikes...so we were on our own.

Mind you, this was in the time of 50-60 hp bikes with the vast majority being under 30 hp. We had a 55 mph speed limit, had no cell phones or electronic gadgets....distracted driving only happened when we yelled at the kids in the back seat or in the pickup bed....I say this to point out that things have certainly changed here in the U.S.

But one thing hasn't changed....grownA$$ people resent being told what to do as long as they act responsibly.

I read an interview once where someone from France was sitting outside a fast food restaurant here in the U.S. drinking some coffee and suddenly busted out laughing. When their American friend asked what was so funny, they were laughing about the "Warning...Contents may be hot" label...

"You see, in France, any idiot knows that"....they said.

      • As for the helmet issue, it is a money thing for sure, but it is a human element as well. The human element trumps any money issue, as there is no price on life and limb.

I can't in good conscience put the ones I care about, my family in particular, through the burden of having to potentially deal with an injury I could have minimized or avoided. That is selfish on my part, as I already ride a motorcycle which is plenty of risk to deal with already. It is only right that I do my best to minimize that risk, anything less is selfish.

        • So, what you are saying is since you believe that you should wear a helmet everyone else should be FORCED to also.

I don't get that reasoning at all.

I'm more comfortable in briefs than boxers so I think everyone else should be forced to wear them also.

          • I have NEVER said anyone should be forced to wear a helmet, if I did, show me in this thread where I did. I will offer my apoligies for the confusion on that... I have merely stated that a rider should choose to wear one, and the evidence to support that.

I am simply saying there is a monetary element, and there is a human element as well, and I cannot ignore the human element in why I make my decision to wear a helmet, and the human element trumps the monetary element for me. The monetary side of it just becomes a point to use to try and make a point, but honestly isn't the core of why I wear a helmet.

Boxers vs. Briefs? Where the in the glorious heck did that come from? Helmets, life and limb... Boxers vs. Briefs????

I have not once mentioned a comfort factor in wearing a helmet, unless you are talking that mentally I am more comfortable wearing a helmet, which I am. But if there is a mental aspect to choosing boxer vs. briefs, man that person has problems...

            • LOL, just makig a comparison as in preferences Howard.

However, wearing shorts that are uncomfortable could distract you from your riding and cause an accident.

              • The undesired shift caused by freely roaming and non-supported anatomical parts as a result of under-supportive garments is a terrible threat to riding, although it seems to be more of an issue for the Harley babes riding bitch when they jangle their boobs all over the place... Sometimes to onlookers delight, sometimes not...

                • au contraire, free roaming is a good thing. ( think chickens) Now when you get in a bind and have to adjust while riding is where the danger lies in briefs.

I still dont think Greg was looking to see if his headlight was working, he was just going for that 'hands free' adjustment.
