vibration
You'll need to be more specific with the vibration. Is it only at speed or is it tach (rpm) related. I had a slight vibration in the sf until I reshimmed it.mack

Seen 140 on mine and the thing that impressed me was the stability, like solid and didin't seem like 140 at all. A quick look at the speedo though got my yellow streak wide enough to drop the throttle some. You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

It's hard to hear the radio clearly above 90... So I don't crest that.ok well every once in a while I will. But not often. I'm never in a big hurry when I get on my XS... We will get there when we get there.
Those of you that like riding 3 bills or better should try a modern sport bike or sport touring bike. 100 on a rocket feels like 60 on a cruiser.
Btw the speedo reads false @ the top end boys.... I've tested mine against my gps. But most all speedos read false after about 75.Don

I replaced my tires and my tach. Just recently I was noticing how much higher the tach reads at a given speed than the old one did. Then it occurred to me, my front tire is running closer to the fender than it used to. The Metzelar tire I put on is noticeably larger than the Dunlop I took off. 100/90-19 for both.Marty (in Mississippi)

Speedo
I think all the XS speedo's are 5 MPH fast. Ever one I have seen so far is. I think the Japanese think they might save us some speeding tickets by doing that. We have lots of speed control signs around here that measure you speed as you go by and post it there for you to see and always I'm 5 mph fast. I tested mine with the GPS at 85 and it was 5 mph fast there also. I haven't checked at higher speeds 'cause I don't wanna take my eyes off the road at 3 digits. You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

Isn't the 100/90-19 a little smaller than the original non metric size?Marty (in Mississippi)

The front was always metric, it was only the rear on the standard that wasn't originally metric. The manual specifies the 110/90 19 as the standard size, however the same marked size tire will be a bit different from manufacture to manufacture.Cy

ALL Honda speedos are 5mph fast just cause of the liability factor. Beg to differ with ya there Cy, the front tire was originally a 3.50H19, rear 4.50H17. Verifiable in my original yellow owners manual........and I put enough of them on this scoot back in the day to know that was correct....BTW, GPS'ed 123mph is just as stable as it was 30yrs. ago..........and close to about it with fairing and all three trunks. Tach has a bit more left, but these scoots ain't got the HP to overcome mother nature fully dressed up..........Last edited by motoman; 05-12-2012, 04:14 PM.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.Comment

Agreed. 120-125 is near top end on the 1100. The speedo is not fixed at one constant "overage". It gets increasingly less accurate the faster you go. I did verify that one, one day, and was really disappointed to find out what my top speed really was.
All I have to say is to ride the 11 for what it is. It is a very reliable nod to the early high performance days, has a great pedigree, and is a ton of fun in its own right. But its not a rocket, and can't easily be made into one. Those are the rules of physics, not mine.Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube. That is why God made fast motorcycles, Bubba….Hunter S. ThompsonComment
