Was on a ride yesterday, and felt like i was in the not just the slow group, but in the stopped group. With almost all of the riders traveling at over 100, i felt like the old guy i am. Think i need to find a way to by a sport tourer over 1000 CC.

Hi, Newbie. At least you lived to tell the tale. North of 100 will cost you a lot of money and inconvenience in Oregon. You must have been somewhere in central WA. Your head was holding you back. You may or may not have been older than the other riders, but IMO you were the wiser for knowing when to back it down.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. Poprock may be right, but i still have the need for speed i guess. Unfortunately i don't think my response time would agree. We were making a run up to Mt. St Helens, via Hwy 504. It isn't patrolled much this time of year. At least i had the rabbits out there to flush them out.1980 XS1100LG Midnight

BTDT! That's a great road to ride and it cries for speed...maybe not 100 mph though. My friend and I had a "spirited" ride up there one time. We didn't scrape any pegs, but we had a good time.
I too feel the urge to splurge now and then, but I had a one-trial learning experience with a man in a blue car a couple years ago and decided that tuition at Speed U. is too expensive for my taste. Cost me about 20 tanks of gas. That's a lot of peaceful, easy miles up in smoke.1980 XS 11 Special: The King of Kong, 9th wonder of the world. I rode with a couple guys across I40 headed for Knoxville once. One on a Road King Ultra 2 up, one on a 1000cc Concours, and me on the XS with a full Vetter tour pack and 2 up. We ran 100-110 for quite a while. Had a few bikes fall in behind us for a few miles at a time. That stretch of highway gets tight at that speed.
78 Standard BTW. And until someone shows me wind tunnel testing, I'll stand by my belief that the Vetter fairing makes your bike more aerodynamic instead of slowing you down.Last edited by TheFrugalTech; 04-30-2012, 03:29 PM.Current Stable:

They are pretty stiff here as well. I think a ticket for that might be $600 or $700 dollars. Maybe more. I do know that it didn't take long to get from Toledo to the coldwater turnoff. I don't really care for the way my bike handles the corners at those speeds though.
Don, the fast guys reported that the road was clear to Johnston Ridge, but there may be more snow coming.1980 XS1100LG Midnight

I ride 100+ almost once every ride here. The local cops patrol our roads like flies on ****e but I manage to find room somewhere. Our population is small compared to the miles of roads to be patrolled so we can get away with it to an extent. Not always safe to do so but I love my 11 and the speed/acceleration it has. To experience this one must push the room on ones wallet as well as the license. I do!2-79 XS1100 SF

Triple digits here all the time. As soon as you get out'o town cage speeds go to 80 - 85 and I do always travel faster than traffic 'cause it's safer for me. Traffic seems to move in groups on the freeway and between the "groups" I'm always well into the triple digits. MMmmm Love speed and the excelleration....MMmmmmmYou can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...
