Garth, prep work is the key.

Get a box disposable vinyl gloves so you won't touch any cleaned surface with your bare hands.

Clean off the silicone, wax, and grease before you start.

If the prep work is done right you can make pizza sauce stick and look good!

      Hey Garth,

Are you meaning Low Velocity ?? My B-I-L just told me that it's water based!

I used an HVLP sprayer IIRC when I painted my bike, just a simple HF sprayer, and some modest priced 2 part paint/clear from PPG, I think it ran about $100.00 total for both paint and clear/hardener and such.

I had to get a respirator type mask, the fumes are quite toxic and harmful. Set up a paintbooth in my garage with sheets of plastic drop hung on ropes and such!

          Hi Garth,
the trick would be finding a source of real paint.
Seems the paint stores are limited to selling tree-hugger paint these days so that's what you will be stuck with using.
Let us know how well the stuff works for you.
I'm sure that I'm not the only one who has used up his stash of the good stuff.

              local source

Garth, TCP Global has a good website, they sell on ebay, and they're right here in san diego with a storefront. I'm painting my bro-in-law's goldwing this sat/ sun, but using high V.O.C. poison-vapor paint. Don't know about the low voc stuff yet, but you should be able to find it easy, all the paints are changing over. Side note, just paid $20 for 1 gallon of laquer thinner yesterday at home depot.

                  low voc paint in S.D.

Garthxs, got another local source, Kearney Mesa Auto Paint off Convoy @ Kearney Mesa. Went there today to meet Bro- in law to pick out his paint and sundries. I like them better than TCP Global. They were real eager to set us up with the right stuff. And they do all low voc paints. Mix up the base color right there in 5 minutes. But be advised, my bro paid just under $400 for everything. Although we needed about twice as much stuff to do a 'wing compared to a (almost) naked xs.

I'm up for riding any weekend, just let me know.

helpful hottie at the counter, priceless (thanks, Paige)

Again, all this above is for a 1984 Goldwing, lots of parts to paint. Took 2 of us 5 hours today to disassemble the plastics and remove badges and latches.
Washing these parts took almost 2 hours. Tomorrow we'll sand, clean again, and maybe begin priming. L-o-o-ong process. Needs beer.
