  • Hello New to site with a intake question

    hello all,

Has anyone got any experience with the carb holders that are being sold on ebay for $70 to $90 a set. seem good priced but I always get leery about under priced stuff on "flea"bay. Especially for motorcycles. I got some cracked ones that need to be changed out. Thanks in advance

Georgefix on ebay is a very good person to deal with and he is very competitive with any others. I buyt mine from him as well as many other parts such as brake rebiuld and carb kits. I think you will find he has a very high "Rep" on this site.

      George fix

I've had nothing but positive experiences with George fix. Make sure you get new nipples with the boots. The old ones get brittle and can leak. Bit of drag hooking up the vacumn stick and tuning the bike to perfection, only to put the old nipples back on and have it run like sh.t, then stand there scratching your head.

Before you spend the money, make sure yours are cracked badly enough to need replacing. They can have pretty nasty-looking cracks on the outside but have none of them go through the boot. You can 'paint' those with 'plastidip' (the stuff for tool handles) to seal/renew them and they can work just fine...

thanks guys... I've been reading that they're double layered and can look that crap and still not be cracked all the way thru. I'll get the seafoam out and spray them down and see if they leak. I would assume some hi temp gas resistant silicone could replace gasket? I've seen the intakes with gaskets for around 80 bucks on ebay. As far as the plugs most any high quality carb vac cap should work I would think?

George Fix is the man! we just got done emailing back and forth for the last week making sure I get the right petcock rebuild kits. Turns out my old man must have put a standard tank on this SF bike back in the day... after many emails and digging around the bike I figured it out. I will just assume he changed the tank for more fuel. once I looked up picture of other bikes the visual differences are plain to see.

BTW the bike runs fine... We've got some long trips planned for this summer and I dont wanna encounter a leaned out cyl due to a split boot I didn't care for in the middle of the high dessert of central washington... that would suck!

Easy way to tell the tanks apart is, standard tank is big and square with knee indents and a recessed gas filler door in the top center. As well as big fat vacuum operated petcocks.

Special tank is a teardrop style tank with an offset non recessed gas fill door. With small petcocks that are not vacuum operated (but would have a separate vacuum operated cutoff).

I bought my carb holders from Parts-N-More, so I can't vouch for these. What I did buy from Sirius was first rate quality, so I wouldn't hesitate. Also, my bike was down last time I purchased and the shipped immediately. So, my experience was good all around.
