My neighbor just traded his '04 Yam FZ1 for an '07 K1200GT which I rode yesterday. Here are my impressions....
Very powerful for its size/weight, easy to flick, nice electronics and display, adjustable windshield height on the fly is sweet, lots of torque - 35mph to 100mph in about 15 secs in 6th gear, very solid ride/feel !!! Engine roar was really sweet when you goosed it..!!
Surprising - clunky transmission not as bad as our xs's but not far from it (his Yam FZ1 was buttery smooth through the gears), fly-by-wire throttle- slow to respond in normal shifting, stodgy rear brake response, downshifting with rear brake applied causes brake pedal kick back, so-so ergonomics even with bar-backs, shifter and rear brake levers too far in from the pegs.
All told, nice, solid, modern scoot, with all the amenities to keep you distracted on the highway.....
Yet, about the same power curve as our beloved XS's, we don't have to hang our heads to it. I actually felt as if my G was a classic muscle bike compared to a modern dressed cruiser, the K's saddle was more comfortable but my G has the raw horsepower to compete with it.
