LOL, If I had a wife I would not likely have 8 bikes, but I don't have a wife so all is good LOL

Hi Marty,
back when I had a house that only had a carport my snowblower needed to be thawed out to get it started.
I was in process of horsing it into the kitchen when my dear wife made strenuous objection, something about her clean kitchen floor.
I then pointed out her available options.
1) I got the snowblower running then blew the 12" of new snow off the drive.
2) I shoved the snowblower out again still frozen and she cleared the drive with a shovel.
All of a sudden a snowblower in the kitchen made all kinds of good sense.

I don't think my mother, who is retired and living here, would like that a whole lot.

I think the easiest thing to do is buy one of those seasonal garages and set it up right tight to the house with its door facing the garage door and put them in there. I didn't really want to have one of those things in my lane way but it will be the fastest and easiest to do this.

So I managed to put up the portable shelter this afternoon and get the 2 bikes that were tarped on my front deck parked in it. I could not put it up tight against the house which was a bummer but at least now I can store the bikes in there. It will be dry but cold.

Dry and cold should work fine. The worst case of over-winter rusting happened the year I stored Tsunami under a waterproof motorcycle cover in my unheated carport. Even just the amount of moisture that came up from the concrete floor must have got trapped under the cover from lack of air circulation. When I took off the cover in spring, Tsunami was clean, but there was rust everywhere. Now, I winter store with no cover in the same carport. Come springtime, Tsunami is absolutely filthy, but there is no rust.

There is a great product made by Gibbs, long-lasting metal protection and rust inhibitor. Or use good old Cosmoline. Even inside a covered area, corrosion can get to work due to temp swings and condensation. Home stores sell dessicant blocks in gallon containers. A couple would provide peace of mind.

Condensation moisture is the concern because it forms everywhere when temps change. It's a lot different then a bike being rained on or washed. That was one of the reasons I decided to store them on the north side which is out of the sun. Until spring temps on the north side of the house will be more stable.

If I find myself needing to put any of my completed bikes out there I will look into finding some of that stuff.

My mother warned my wife before we got married. When I still lived at home, I had a 1970 Ford F250 that had a slightly warped exhaust manifold. So, my mother came in one day to find me sitting in the living room with newspaper across the floor, a nice heavy block of wood with sand paper on it and me sanding the manifold smooth. I was watchin the telly while I worked for some form of entertainment. SWMBO has kept a vigilant eye for such things our entire marriage.
