You talking about the round rubber pad where the upper part of the tray is mounted to the frame?Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Pad
No, the long rubber pad that fits over the battery shoulder, under the clamp. Can't believe they're discontinued.mack

Ok, Sorry, I know I sold that with the battery box. I'm with Phil, it is strictly a vibration isolation piece. Any piece of foam/rubber would serve the purpose. You could probably take some foam tape like used for sealing a cap on a pickup bed, or doors in a house, tape it to the mounting bracket where it contacts the battery and call it good.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Thanx anyway
I knew I could come up with something. It was just that in a full restore mode I'd try stock set up first. However, riding is the main thing so I'll do what I have to to get the rubber on the road again.mack

Mine was missing too when I first got the bike. I ended up winning an ebay auction with a bucket-o-parts that just happened to include that piece in it. I was pleasantly surprised and I installed it right away. I actually never noticed that it was gone until I saw it in the pile o parts. The PO had laid a strip of hard rubber in that spot. I just went looking, and here's an ebay auction that has one right on top!
This one has the metal strap that it rides in too.Last edited by CatatonicBug; 05-06-2011, 09:27 PM.1980 XS850SG - Sold

Bugs right
Bug was right, it was just annoying. Nothing to do with safety. I'm really anal about these bikes. If it's not right then I have to make it right before I will relax and enjoy. I was really picky when I restored Hermes. To a fault really, but when I'm riding him, my face gets sore from smiling and laughing all the time. Spoic won't be any different. Thanx for the tips guys but as usual, Andreas come through for me.mack
