Xs1000

Well, it took me a while but I finally got the doc ready to view. This is a collection of papers specifying technical details and parts list for the fabled xs1000. These were copied by me from a folder labeled 1977 Yamaha Preliminary Service Seminar, which I bought on ebay. I have not been able to find anything similar to this online already and I hope this sparks some discussion!

Phatts Thanks for this info...fascinating...on page 10 the diagram show how oil flows up into the head to lube the cam lobes...this shows definitvely that some so called XS gurus are wrong...because they tell me no oil is coming up that far so how could it be leaking off the engine where I say it is...it has to be coming from the back of the engine where the oil lines go in...no....sorry they were dry as a bone back there... even though this is "XS1000" its really the 1100

There is a lot of information there, some of it's a little obscure and there a few 'oddities':

The Ignition Pickup Coil-Clamp-Governor Diagrams on pages 23 and 24 are identical but with two different resolutions. Page 24 is better.
Pages 26-29 are a Yamaha Service Seminar that discusses the XS750 TCI and its 3-lobe ignition.
Pages 64-68 is the Yamaha Service Seminar that discusses the XS1000 TCI and ignition.

Max,

The cam lobes aren't lubed directly, only the journals are pressure-fed. Is that what you're thinking about?

yes thats what i'm talking about...I'm no expert but its clear oil does come up to the top of the engine...

Well, yeah, it does oil the top end, who told you... Nevermind! That's what the funny-looking curly metal pipe is all about that bolts on the top of the crankcase by the oil pressure sender and snakes its way up to the back of the cylinders to the cylinder head.

I totally love the tricolor oil flow diagrams too.

Whoops, pages 23 and 24 are the same. I'll have to see if a page is missing from the pdf. Should I drop the 750 tci section? There is a lot of good info here, maybe I can organise it better. FYI, the tricolor lube charts originally are on the same page, I just couldn't fit it all on the copier.
