XS11's forever?

I too have this addiction that you speak of. I like most bikes and can see why different people have they're different tastes. I love the look and power of my XJ but I am starting to appriciate the feel and comfort of my new (to me) triumph trophy. It is no comparison to my yamaha by any means though. I can even appriciate the look of a lot of Harley's, even though I have a tough time not chuckling at some of the instant bad _sses riding them.

I like the Triumphs as well. I am seriously considering a Triumph Thunderbird Storm or a Rocket 111 as my next bike. I once owned a 1974 Superglide and I was a younger fella then. The darn thing was just to slow at that time in my life. Heck my 1977 CB 550F seemed faster and much more reliable. I do like the new Harley Ultra Classics. Darn i like all types.

Ol' Trusty Rusty is still going strong. Seat pan is rusted out on one side so I can't reupholster. Guess I'll have to find another seat pan, until then it's duct tape.

I went back to the stock pullback bars late last year. They're (only) comfortable when set really low, especially if you've got a windshield and highway pegs. It is also necessary to move the levers so they hang below the bars so that your wrists aren't bend at a ridiculous angle. They aren't for tall people though. I'm average height.

I'm just playin, I prolly look the same way...is it cold where u are? i only wear chaps about 2-3 months max here in CA...and two questions...whered u get the boots and can i have your backrest and junk rack? I really like em... bomber jacket looks warm too...if u wanna sell hit me up...

I'm almost 6' 5". I guess that's average. I like the Special bars too. They're comfy to me. More so on the XS11 than the XS650.

My 'special bars" ordered them new from Mikexs are low to the point of the frips just missing the gas tank by about 1/4 inch. My grips & hands are just above my knees - super comfy with the forwards or highway bars like you guys said. No wrist pain are arm strain as the arms are held low. I love them. Finally heard of other guys with the same idea of comfort. I'm only 5'9" - Dan

I am 6'11" tall, and would like a bit less bend back toward me in the bars, feels like my elbows are locked in by my side, but it's only a functional issue when turning tight at low speed.

Another forum member that lives close to me has an extra set of Standard bars, and in the next weekend or two I hope to try them on my 80SG and see how they work given my "vertically challenged" status...

I confess, I've got MBS, and yet some may come and go but my XS isn't going any where but down the road with me on it.

I like my XS. It is the third one I've had not counting parts bikes. Other bikes have come and gone, lots of them even. The only down side is they are getting harder to find low mileage so maybe I'll just keep this one til I'm dead.

The 79 XS1100SF I have now is my third XS in my life time and this one is here to stay. I'll buy other bikes, the latest and greatest etc. But the 79 I have now is mine for keeps. I plan on picking up a 1st gen Vmax too some day.

1st one was a 1979 carmine red one that I picked up in the mid 80s and subsequently traded in on a new Vmax.



I then bought this 80 SG from a friend, and then sold it to another friend. It's a great bike and he still rides it daily.



I love these bikes and found a 79 to renovate, and it's a keeper.

Yeah, I "chatted up" a young bloke on a modern "T Bird" at a gas station the other day. Very nice bike. He really liked it. Those 3 cylinders sound distinctly different from a four: sounds kinda like a snarl. Very cool. Too bad about the chain drive though.

Thank you motoman, yes the mountain sleds are important too. I ride the Arctic Cat M8 and my wife rides the 2009 Yamaha four stroke Phazer.

I love Yamaha bikes...I have a 83 XJ750 and my pride and Joy 79 XS1100 Special. Now I have always been in love with choppers, but not so much with their price tags. I believe that after this next deployment I will purchace a Victory Highball, now that the wife and kids have a new cage and house it's time to spoil myself a little, but my XS will always be with me!!

Like I've said before, any company that can build a good handling guitar AND a well tuned motorcycle definitely has my admiration.
