Ol' Trusty Rusty is still going strong. Seat pan is rusted out on one side so I can't reupholster. Guess I'll have to find another seat pan, until then it's duct tape.
I went back to the stock pullback bars late last year. They're (only) comfortable when set really low, especially if you've got a windshield and highway pegs. It is also necessary to move the levers so they hang below the bars so that your wrists aren't bend at a ridiculous angle. They aren't for tall people though. I'm average height.

My 'special bars" ordered them new from Mikexs are low to the point of the frips just missing the gas tank by about 1/4 inch. My grips & hands are just above my knees - super comfy with the forwards or highway bars like you guys said. No wrist pain are arm strain as the arms are held low. I love them. Finally heard of other guys with the same idea of comfort. I'm only 5'9" - Dan'81 XS1100 LH - Midnight Special - been lookin' a long time for this one.

I am 6'11" tall, and would like a bit less bend back toward me in the bars, feels like my elbows are locked in by my side, but it's only a functional issue when turning tight at low speed.
Another forum member that lives close to me has an extra set of Standard bars, and in the next weekend or two I hope to try them on my 80SG and see how they work given my "vertically challenged" status...Howard

I confess, I've got MBS, and yet some may come and go but my XS isn't going any where but down the road with me on it.1979 XS 1100 SF(16k now, more to come)

I like my XS. It is the third one I've had not counting parts bikes. Other bikes have come and gone, lots of them even. The only down side is they are getting harder to find low mileage so maybe I'll just keep this one til I'm dead.

The 79 XS1100SF I have now is my third XS in my life time and this one is here to stay. I'll buy other bikes, the latest and greatest etc. But the 79 I have now is mine for keeps. I plan on picking up a 1st gen Vmax too some day.
1st one was a 1979 carmine red one that I picked up in the mid 80s and subsequently traded in on a new Vmax.
I then bought this 80 SG from a friend, and then sold it to another friend. It's a great bike and he still rides it daily.
I love these bikes and found a 79 to renovate, and it's a keeper.

Yeah, I "chatted up" a young bloke on a modern "T Bird" at a gas station the other day. Very nice bike. He really liked it. Those 3 cylinders sound distinctly different from a four: sounds kinda like a snarl. Very cool. Too bad about the chain drive though.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"

I love Yamaha bikes...I have a 83 XJ750 and my pride and Joy 79 XS1100 Special. Now I have always been in love with choppers, but not so much with their price tags. I believe that after this next deployment I will purchace a Victory Highball, now that the wife and kids have a new cage and house it's time to spoil myself a little, but my XS will always be with me!!DirtyNasty
