Lots of people ditch the fairing. Might get one for cost of shipping.

#4 in Ohio looks like just what I'm looking for- nice color & equipment:

$1200 is probably not too bad if it's completely operational, but I'd have to have it shipped.Current bikes:

#5 in Illinois is a 1981:
http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/mcy/2096673678.html
1981 yamaha xs1100 runs good ,windshield ,fairing, saddle bags, needs tlc, seat has rips, needs one side cover, mechanicaly runs good ,but shifting lever bent, jumps out of first gear, great winter project bike,,at a reasonable price,,,,,$500.00 obo
The description says it jumps out of first gear. Is this one of the 10% with the 2nd gear transmission issue?
I like the larger gas tank on the '81 models.Current bikes:

#5 is probably the full dress with the 6 gallon tank. The early speedo will fit, and the gear fix is about 8 hours the first time through. IMHO that would be worth a look. Keep in mind not everyone selling an XS knows just what they have. a LOT of them have moved through a few PO's, and with some clean-up work can make good, reliable transportation.
#4 has the Pacifico fairing, put on the '78 and EARLY '79 models. One of the BEST for going through the wind as it will NOT cut the top speed more than 5 MPH. I like the top box, as it look like you can put a laptop in it!Last edited by DiverRay; 12-10-2010, 11:42 PM.Ray Matteis

I shouldn't say this but
I just bough 3 rear rims for my 79 special. They have excellent bearings in them. One had a new tire on it still has the nubs on it. I paid 14.95 each. I took 20 min. to drive to the place so no shipping. I also bought the front tire and rim to match the new rear one and I paid 14.95 for it. New forks /w triple tree was 24.95 and the chrome head light was 19.95. I got a left side cover for 50.00 and the head light mounting brackets for 25.00.
I never get deals like this I always miss this stuff. I been buffing and polishing for weeks but it's all worth it.

Well, go find a Sabre site with as much support as this one!!! It ain't happnin!! While the V65 was a pretty good rig, when they were running, the upper cam oiling issue cratered a bunch of them, quick. How many of the V4's ya ever see at the drag strip? Even now the in line 4's are king of the hill. When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

Yeah, everything with the Sabre has been a negative. The forum is inaccessible, the sellers are uninformed or won't respond, and it has a history of poor engineering that may or may not have been fixed.
I have another XS candidate here in Florida, and am working on getting a bike hauler put together.Current bikes:

Best of luck finding an eleven to fit you. Upon success, you'll find no shortage of advice, encouragement, or just plain comeraderie here from like minded XSives.
There is someone here that has had to deal with ANY trouble you may encounter while bringing it up to snuff, or have develop while enjoying it.

Thanks Mike. I got a great vibe about the forum after visiting. I belong to one for almost every vehicle I own, to include the bikes.
I'm working out plans for a trailer so I can expand my radius. Several candidates within a couple hundred miles.
Good catch on the user name. It was the first one I thought of & I was surprised no one here had it.Current bikes:

So the phonetic is the military version, not the LEO version from what I can tell. What branch did you serve in, or did you? (just my curiosity)
Good luck on finding a project! If you don't mind the shipping, I have one here for you!

LEO versions vary from state to state, that was where I learned them.
CA shipping is just too high, especially since gas is now over $3/gallon here.
Thanks for the offer though.Current bikes:
