I believe the SG and the SH are the same. Both sides on the top has round holes, not slots on the SH for sure and I thought for the SG as well. Only the SH has the emblem that has "ELEVEN SPECIAL" in cursive with the Nike swish under it.

And I'll bet you could do the same thing on the other one as well, as the super glue and baking soda are really workable.

I saw a left cover on ebay last week, but let it be cuz I'm not in a big hurry on those. Maybe I should have grabbed it when I had the chance. Are they all the same between years and models, or did they change them up a bit? If they're different, what others (if any) will fit an SG?
'Did they change them up a bit'... HAH HAH HAHHA HAH!!

Yes, there's at least 4 different kinds, maybe more; frankly, if it won't fit my '78 I don't care. I know the '78-79 standards are one type, and the '80 special is different from them. The 81H is different yet again, but may interchange with the same year special as the H I got has a Special cover on one side. The broken 'catch' on the left side cover is all too common; that's always the hard one to find without damage no matter the year, and usually costs $50 or more if it's good. Right side covers are easier, but still not all that cheap.

Yours look pretty good and would be worth fixing like Ken said...

Got her back today and went for a short ride, my first ride in about 11 years. It was frakkin' awesome. I'd nearly forgotten how much fun it is. Came home grinning like an idiot.

                    Welcome newbe!

Welcome aboard! I own a 79 Special, or does it own me? I may get another bike for a daily ride, but I intend to keep the Special for rally's and Special Events. Mine has well over 100,000 miles on it, and only had 28,000 when I bought it. I wore out the original speedometer. It still has good compression, doesn't burn a drop of oil, and runs like a top. May yours do the same. It is an awesome bike!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                    I've been riding since 1959.
