    Wiring

I'm in the process of upgrading the fusebox and I noticed a black wire hanging loose. It doesn't connect to the fuses, but was connected to something close to them. I took my old battery and had it recycled and am waiting for the BigCrank I ordered.
If you haven't already noticed, electrical is not my strong point. I can probably wait until the battery comes and see what doesn't work when I hook it up. Until then, I have some pictures and if anyone knows where it should connect to, would be a help, Thanks.

Looks like someone tapped that black wire into an existing wire. What color is that other wire? If it's blu/yel, someone might have bypassed the reserve lighting unit, or added an extra light somewhere.

I think you may be on to something. I'll check it out tomorrow and see if that's what is going on. Thanks

That's definitely a connector for tapping into another wire. If you get the correct color I can look it up for you in the wiring diagram.

          Hi Duck,
Yamaha's wire colour convention is that ALL black wires are GROUND wires.
As that black wire is parasited onto a blue/yellow wire it's a wiring bodge-up attempt by the dreaded PO.
Me, I'd rip it out of there, nasty blue parasite tap and all.

            I agree with Fred,
the blue parasite will give you problems.

              Thanks

I downloaded the 80g color wiring diagram someone posted a while back which should help me down the line. Nice upgrade to the Clymer b/w pdf.
When I get out of work later, I'll take a look and compare it. You folks are on the right track though. Thanks again

From the diagram, that should be the left Handlebar turn switch, not sure why he connected the black wire. I'll see if he tapped into another place which the lose end would have hooked up to.

                Hi Duck,
my B/W Clymer's diagram shows the blue/yellow (L/Y) wire running between the headlight dimmer switch (in the same handlebar cluster as the signal switch) and the RLU.
It may be of interest to see the exact cludge the PO was attempting but that black wire is best removed.

That's the one. Am I reading it wrong or is it the left handlebar turn switch?
