I was using Netscape v4.5 and the problem wasn't subtle. It took up to 30 seconds for some pages to load. I had stayed with that old version because it worked for everything I was doing and I didn't like v6.0.

JP... I have to go change my vote to Opera. The more I use it the better it gets. I hope that won't skew the stats too much! :0

I agree Bill, I use IE, I like it and have to use it at work. But Opera is growing on me. It has alot of cool features and seems to be fast.

I have finally given up on Netscape and am moving over to IE. I installed Netscape 6.2 and it loaded all of this AOL crap. When I started deleting it, 6.2 stopped working. So... I uninstalled 6.2. The problem is, everytime I start windows, a screen pops up asking me to log into instant messenger... I have tried every way I can think of to get rid of it, and it is still coming up. Any ideas?

Dave, try running msconfig. That is if you are running Win98... not sure if it will work with NT,XP,???? or not. Msconfig will bring up your various configuration files, one of these (far right) will show you what loads on startup. The messenger prg should be in here somewhere. Click on the box next to it to remove the check mark.

Thanks... I had forgotten about that command. I tried regedit... but I always get nervous when I go in there.

Thanks! It worked like a charm!

                          Hi,

For those who like to have alternatives...

Try out the Netscape V. 7.0 that just been released. It's a lot faster than 6.x series and has some of the same features that Opera uses. Forget about 4.x or IE, Netscape is back with a bang!

I was forced to use Internet Explorer for ½ year because 6.2 was so slow and didn't handle encryption well, but now I'm uninstalling the old SW and continuing with the N line again.

I have switched over to IE for most work as it seems to be more stable and much faster than Netscape (WIN98). I also have been trying Opera lately, but find it does not line up messages vertically (XS11forum), and laterally shifts frames on other web pages.

I'm using N 7 on three (or four) different enviroments and have yet to find any major problems.

                              Work NT4.0 and Win 2000

Also at home I have Mozilla 1.0 through Linux RedHat 7.2 but that maybe doesn't count.

                                IE6

I ain't real whippy on this hi-tech stuff. I think IE came on this Dell and so long as it's working........... Maybe that's why I've been driving this XS since 78.
