    yorkville 1960s

    i am old enough to remember the riverboat ,,the penny farthing and the myna bird coffee houses ,,where it seemed all the greats played! too many to list,,Toronto s yorkville area had a magnetism that drew kids from near and far to its wonderful strange grasp ,,if your old enough to remember this ,,go to you tube and listen to ,,wind ,,,by circus maximus,stay away from the brown acid !and ride safe slow mo!

      yep all those places and seeing George Olliver and Mandala , Levon and the Hawks ,wonder what ever happend to them Luke and the Apostles the mynah birds, The Beat Stalkers, the paupers, Steel River , who got the name by taking a map , remember those , and sticking a pin in it

        it was a regular Sat. night thing they were a bar band then a really good one although The ugly Ducklings were probably more of a favourite of mine they lived close by It was hit the 'village' on the weekends and go watch some bands ,see if you could pick up some licks . this was when these guys were starting out I used to skip school and go to Orillia and watch Lightfoot practice in the park or maybe busking was a better term

        Remembering at times from the '60's can be a problem
        Just down south in NO the past feb. Had to go here....
















        Other than the band setting up I was just about the only one there,bar keep needed a smoke so he walked me thru the place and told a few stories and even had a couple of beers on the house.Very cozy place...left a good tip..I was walking back to the hotel from the casino when I remembered the place was on my way..good call.

          and another thing Lee VanLeer who was the keyboardist with The Sparrow decided to not go to the states and is still cranking out music here in Toronto I meet up with him @ my favourite Music store fairly regularly http://www.encoremusicexchange.biz/

              i just listened to Hoyt Axtons snow blind friend performed by john kay ,,i had forgotten he also did great stuff like that as well as the traditional steppenwolf stuff ,,i,m impressed again ,,ride safe ,,slow mo!
