I've also observed less waiving occurs towards oncoming bikers when riding a BMW... unless of course the oncoming rider is seated upon another BMW... naturally...

The only BMW riders that don't seem to wave back to me is the CHP riders. And I've stopped waving to them, they seem to think you must be drunk if you do, as I guess nobody is actually friendly to them, EVER.

It is a nice bike, Ray, congratulations but Brunhilde!? A Götterdämmerung Valkyrie and a BMW! If some Hagen son of an Alberich shows up and stares at Penny's ring or the gold on your XS11 while trying to book you two for a vacation on the Rhine -- run! The only ones that get out of it alive are the Rhinemaidens!

French tires on a German bike... ride it out to do battle on the way to work and it won't know whether to try to conquer the entire freeway and all of the neighboring roads or just try to retreat, surrender, and start a guerrilla war with you in the driveway!

No, really, Ray took me for a spin today with me ridding "bitch." Sweet ride.
I'm still trying to build my bod back up before I pilot my own.
I see a trend developing here, one that I will join if possible. I see XSives buying newer bikes for daily rides and keeping their XS's to restore, or otherwise fix up, and keep for rally's, shows, special events, and just for nostalgia. Not to mention it's still a damn good bike!
I'm wanting a street tracker, maybe a 500 thumper, or a XS650 for a 'round town and mountain bike while I go to town fixing up my XS.
Y' got a sweet ride there Ray. You didn't mention the push button suspension adjustment, the adjustable wind screen (I assume,) the on board latrine the ABS brakes, or the heated hand grips.
Ah well, age has a way...

So I just filled the tank after 319 miles of commuting to work. 5.9 gallons of PREMIUM fuel. I can live with 53.9 MPG The MNS is getting just about 39 MPG on REGULAR fuel. And for those that know the roads around here, that's over 17 at the speed limit (or what seems correct)

Ray, 17 is a nice ride and you have a great bike for it! Thankfully there is a lot more to a bike than gas mileage!

With $2.90/gallon Regular gas your old MS cost ~7 cents/mile to ride.

$3.20/gallon Premium gas for the economical RT bumped you all the way down to ~6 cents/mile.

At $3.20/gallon and saving 1 cent/mile in fuel cost the new RT[1] will pay for itself after only 1,250,000 miles. Everything after that is pure gravy!

[1]I've heard that the new touring Harleys can get ~55 MPG with Premium gas for an utterly astounding 5.8 cents/mile fuel cost. The 1.2 cent/mile savings over a gas-guzzling MS would pay off that $40,000 bike after a mere 3,333,333 1/3 miles!

Got it on one! <green grin> There is something about having a 300 mile range in the 6-gallon tank that sounds so nice and comforting!

After my last trip with a 5-gallon tank I know a Special would have left me walking between gas stations several times out in the toolies but I don't want his head to a'splode!
