It's important to take a riding course but; in your son's defense animal strikes are the most unpredictable and difficult situations to avoid.
Most importantly glad he is okay.

Sorry to hear about Chris but it seems he's going to be just fine. I know he's a capable rider having seen him ride so I'm sure he did well to minimize the damage. I'm sure the hours of training you gave him kicked in. Just glad he's OK.
