  • New horse in the barn!

I managed to finally find a bike that suits my needs and wants. It has 13K miles and was cheap! It has new tires, no fairings, lots of power, and will make and excellent street fighter. So against my better judgement, I purchase it:

    1998 VTR1000 Super Hawk

I have a lot of plans for this bike as well, but I don't expect that will break anyone's heart here. It will remain naked as all my bikes do, but may get regeared for more midrange, instead of the (by the clock) 148 mph top end. It has had some good work done for engine mods, and I was provided with the dyno sheets for it to boot. It makes just at 100 hp now at this altitude, and handles much better than the XS11. Now I have two cool bikes!

    Hi T99,
    congratulations on the new bike.
Gotta question about the passenger ergonomics though.
Where can one find a sexy midget to fit those high footpegs?

I was just looking at a 2001 Superhawk with 21000 miles in mint condition, askin $3100! For the money they seem like a really good buy. A coworker of mine has one and it sounds nice. Some day!

It should be a lot of fun. I am looking at regearing to reduce the top end (had it to about 150ish by the clock). I would rather have the handling than the flat out speed. But it is no slouch

My wife said that she will NOT ride on the back. She said if she gets on, she will be driving! I wonder if I really should have gotten her into motorcycles or not...

The 86 VFR750 was my last bike.
Hated it. Felt like a monkey screwing a football riding it.
                      106HP, 10.59 seconds in the 1/4 mile at 113mph.
The bike was fun for that 1/4 mile, then ya just felt like an idiot being on it.

I actually like the riding position, as my XS11 is the same.I don't feel like and idiot, I feel in control. I like that it does everything the my XS does, only better and more refined. But, it is kind of like putting a '69 Dodge Charger against a Subaru WRX. The Suby would probably win, but would have no where near the class! Gotta keep the XS to be my '69 Charger! I guess it is all a matter of the kind of riding you like, though

PS: My wife is trying to take it away, now I bought it with my allowance money, so I told her to go get her own
