Stupid Deer
Nearly hitting a deer back when I just had my 2nd daughter born stopped my riding for 18 years. The thought of actually hitting is enough to put a crease in my computer chair One of the roads I ride home after 2nd shift is over has a LOT of deer crossing it. Its in an area where they don't allow hunting and the herd just grows. It's not unusual to see a dozen standing next to the road in someones front yard, and they will not move.
Very glad you will mend and will keep you in our prayers.

I hit a deer on my SG and thought i hit a horse because it was by a farm. After being hit and not going down i wondered what damage it did to the bike-a small dent in the tank as it mostly hit the crash bars i had installed.I got off the bike and looked down and my pants were ripped by the antlers.I had maybe 15 stitches put through the kneecap and spent the night in the hospital for observation.Heal fast!1980 XS1100 SG

Dude,
That sucks!! Heal fast. If I ever get my scoot road-worthy, maybe we can plan a ride. I'm about 2 hours away. We Merliners (Baltimoron slang for Marylanders) have to stick together.

Plenty of deer 'round here too. Thank God you didn't end up worse, man. I hope you fully recover, and don't let it deter you from riding again. Get well soon!Richard

Turkey Buzzards
It's hard to believe, but we just had a rider killed by a Turkey Buzzard! Seems the bird flew up when he rode by and hit him in the chest. He lost control and hit a tree. This happened in Van Buren county in lower Michigan. Man, you gotta watch out for EVERYTHING! Just re-enforces how lucky you were dpotter.1979XS1100SF

Hey there DuWayne,
I'm a bit late to the party! Wishing you the best, quick recovery and all that. Glad you have a spare bike, but it's still a shame to see one get totalled! Take care, and keep riding when you get out!

Made it home yesterday. I'm feeling pretty good; lots of sore spots though. I checked out the bike on the way home and at first glance it looks good. I couldn't get down and look at why the front fender is out of line or if the rear wheel really is out of line but it looks like after the impact it sld to a stop on the left crash bar, fairing and bag corners. The glass is broken out of the speedo as well.
While out picking up stuff Wednesday I heard Bob Segar's fire down below and looked at the wife and said "man I wish I was twisting the throttle right now" She looked like she wanted to slap me."If A equals success, then the formula is: A = X + Y + Z. X is work. Y is play. Z is keep your mouth shut." - Albert Einstein

Good to see you are home and feeling well (and the XS isn't too bad off). Also glad that this incident has not dampened your enthusiasm for riding. Take it easy for a while and rest up. You will be back in the saddle soon enough.79 XS1100 SF - name TBD - possibly "Divorce Maker" Kerker 4 into 1, K&N filter in stock air box
