  • It finally happened...

Unfortunately it finally happened to me......I wrecked on my bike. I don't know how it happened, but my throttle stuck open and before I could pull in the clutch or hit the kill switch, I plowed right into a curb. Fortunately, I was able to avoid all the cars around me, or should I say, Thank God I was able to avoid the cars.
When I hit, the bike and I flipped and I landed on the curb with my shoulder. Once I stopped moving, I had to get to my bike to turn it off as the rear wheel was doing about 60 mph and the engine was just screaming! Oh yeah, gas was pouring out too...good times!
I separated my clavical and it's sticking up, almost through the skin on my shoulder. They aren't sure about whether surgery or rehab is the best way to go yet.
The bike will need forks, headlight, headlight bucket and ears, signals, mirrors, grips, pegs and a new muffler. Not really that bad considering.....
I will post some pics of the bike when I get a minute. Oh, and a new front SS brake line. I was on the brakes hard when I hit and one of the lines got kinked and the brake is locked.
My shoulder looks gross with the huge bump....yuck. But today I'm not sore at all, other than my shoulder, and thank God again, no rash at all!!
If only curbs were made outta pillows!!

Wow, good to hear you came out reasonably ok. I know they do debate even fixing a clavical typically. For mine, they had no choice but to go in and put a plate and screws in. Mine was broke along the length of it for over half of it. So I got a plate and 6-7 screws. I can almost count them running my hand over the bone.

Bike took a good hit it sounds like, but at they are easy to fix compared to your body, trust me. I took my project down to the frame engine and wiring harness and built it back completely in less time than I have spent waiting for my leg and arm to heal.

Oh yeah, if it were me, I'd never take Oxycotin again if I could avoid it. Getting off of it sucks!!!

        Feel better soon!

The most important thing is that you survived the accident . . . the bike can be fixed if you are willing to put the time and money into it! I've been riding off and on for the better part of 30 years and have also had my share of close calls, but "knock-on-wood" I have been fortunate to come out unscathed so far. Rest-up, and good luck with the bike's repair . . . sounds as if for some reason your throttle linkage hanged-up!

Just more proof the throttle on these bikes works better than the brakes and handling.

Glad you're here telling us about it. Heal up soon.. or not, and we can change your nickname to Quasimotto?

OK, just kidding. I hope the shoulder gets well soon.

Yea, the throttle works REAL well Tod. You've got that part figured out.

Blaming the brakes and the handling for YOUR short comings though is a little short of the truth.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. I actually met a guy last week with a 79SF that hasn't run since he got a new bike. He only wants a couple hundred bucks for it and its complete, so the repair won't be costly thank goodness.
As far as the drugs go, they dont work for me. At least not for pain. I self medicated at the hospital with a 30mg morphine pill, then they gave me two vicodin pills and then a shot of morphine....all within an hour, but nothin' happened. Shoulder hurt just as bad leaving as when I got there!
I doubt ill wait time with the Norco script they gave me.

Damn that sucks...just glad you are relatively okay...When you fix that bike (if you do) be sure tio find out why your throttle stuck.

sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you're okay other that the shoulder hump. I had a stage 2 clavical tear and they had to do surgery on it. They cut the end of my collar bone off and reattached all the muscle and ligaments to it. I had three tiny incisions and it was healed in no time I was back to work in two weeks. Hopefully if you go the surgery route that's all it will take.

Glad you aren't hurt too bad. Heal up.

Didn't see throttle cable on your list of things that need fixin'. Might want to look into that, or the grip or controls. Would hate for you to get it all fixed up again only to do it all over again.

                      Get well.

Actually, since 'throttle' means to restrict flow, the throttle didn't work very well.

The eveidence shows someone opened the throttle and let the Genie out!

Sorry for the accident, I hate it when that happens, it can ruin a whole day...

just regarding the bike, if the
trip over switch was fitted/working that shouldve
killed the engine, its a good example of not having it removed.

Glad to hear you made it out with all your parts attached... if not in tact. Regarding the pain pills, tell your doctor they aren't working, and he should be able to get you something else that does. Different things work for different people. My family are all prone to injury, and different meds work for each of us.

I wrecked my shoulder with my bike once... I was push starting it. Popped the clutch, and the bike popped my shoulder It had been previously wrecked snowboarding, but that's another story.

Good luck with the healing and repairs!
