Hey all,
The 71 ford is going down the road. I bought a 1999 F Superduty to replace her. It is kind of bittersweet, but am finding fuel injection, hydraulic cluthes, and 30 years less wear quite nice. I had an '02 Powerstroke, but sold it when I quit traveling for my job. I forgot how good these trucks are!

Congrats on the purchase!! I now have an 01 F150 Crewcab. My daughter uses it primarily, it is the only thing I own I will let her drive since she has only had her license maybe 4 months.

I use to own a 1970 F250. 3 on the tree, dual tanks, well used and abused by a previous owner. he had sideswiped a tree on the passenger side so the entire passenger door and B pillar were screwed up. The door panel was crushed in bad, but the door had been straightened out enough to open and close like new, and the window went up and down like new. But you could see the road going by through the 2" gap between the door bottom and the floor rail. Did not help that the steering box was shot, tight as it could get and the thing still had 1/4 turn of play in the steering wheel. It was fun watching peoples eyes the first time they road in there with me and I just turn the wheel back and forth form side to side to keep it between the lines. You know, I miss that truck alot. But I think I'll keep my 01.

The '67-72 Ford trucks were the best truck they ever sold IMHO. I had a '68 1/2T (manual everything, 3-speed, only options were the 360 and Ranger package) that went 250K+ with only 3 sets of brakes and two clutches. Got 20+ mpg to boot before the motor got really worn (I swear!). Valves got so bad you couldn't park it on a hill ('compression' wouldn't hold it) and when the timing chain jumped, that was it. Would have fixed it, but my X had taken too many 'ditch detours' in it and the only undented panel was the roof.

Used to run logging roads at 60 mph in that truck, with no ill effects... they really were built tough.

I had an old Ford it was early 70's - had the 3 speed shift on the column. I bought it in the late 80's for $500 & road it for a few yrs - shot can primer in spots & all. Hauled alot of firewood with it. That 2nd gear was great when hauling wood. The throttle would get stuck everyonce in awhile - that was always fun. - Dan

This is my fourth of these trucks (68-72), and the last one for awhile. I have always really liked them, and they have been stand up transportation. But I have found that 40 years of technology has in fact improved some things, and just really like some of the features of the new ones. If I get another one, I want to restore it, so it might just happen again!

I think not
I’ve had an 88 and a 91 GMC 3500’s.
Going up the Donner grade I got stuck behind a numerical deficient Ford 350 .
I was towing just over 6,500 pounds, the ford was pulling a singe car trailer with a small car on it (at least a 1,000 pounds less). As soon as traffic let me pull over he got to watch my tail lights dwindle into the sunset…

Cool, thanks, TC! I hadn't reallythought about a permanent change, but I like it. Now, if we can all get some popcorn and watch the Ford/ Chevy debate begin!

I have always just been partial to Ford, although I think that has more to do with body styling than performance. We have had both in my family, and I can't really say that one significantly can outdo the other. But I know there are people with STRONG opinions on this one

Might have been a little one sided as the 3500 had 400 HP and low gears.
Top speed was just over 85 but could pull big time, even better than my 6.2 turbo diesel. Of course I got 12 MPG towing and about 13 when not

Plush interior, great factory sounds, but rode like a friggen truck unless you put about 700 pounds in the back.

I got my lil 99 f150 for camping offroad. GM and Dodge products got hung up, Ford made it over. I'm not a hardcore offroader, just like inconvenient places to camp.
