Yep, I learned that lesson first hand already. Early morning drive to work after it rained kinda hard the night before. I was takin a left hand sweeper thats a 270 deg corner up hill, was just pulling the bike out of the lean when I hit some wash. Luck I was only in first gear or I woulda had a very bad day. I ended up puttin my inside (left) foot down to save it and by doing so got my foot sucked under the peg. It almost pulled me off the bike, it wrenched my knee and my ankle up real good, also got my boot scuffed to hell. Unfortunately the safety toe boots I had on were my "office casual" steel toes that dont go above my ankles. Never again, I wont ever ride with a boot or shoe (haha shoe yea right) that doesnt cover my ankle or have some type of safety toe...

P.S. I adjusted the shifter height to accomidate my clod hopper too.

So, please help me understand. These boots do go above my ankle and are tight around the ankle. With respect to keeping my ankle from twisting over backwards, what extra help does 2" give me. I'm having trouble visualizing how the mechanics of it would work.

The shoes you posted about don't even have the support of high-top basketball shoes. They may go over your actual ankle bone, but you can still point your toes with them on. They will not prevent you from bending your ankle.

Notice the difference in height between that shoe (yes, shoe, not boot) and this MC riding boot:

These boots will literally prevent you from pointing your toes. If your toe touches the ground, it will prevent your foot from being forcibly removed from the end of your leg.

Now, I am not saying that this is the only kind of footwear that should be worn while riding, but your shoes are really not any more than tall tennis shoes.

I usually wear my double h steel toe harness boots , I've easily had them 7 years and they're still hanging in there , though I do have to re-rivet the straps from time to time .
