What boots do you ride in?

Im about to purchase some new boots and I dont really know whats out there for good riding boots. I usually ride in a pair of 8-10 in tall logging boots with steel toe. Im starting to look for a new pair of steel toe, under $200 that are a little more comfy than the loggers, something with less heal... This is close to what I have now for comparison.

I have a pair of timber lands, they cost 120 but I use them for work as well, the best parts is they are light, they breath and nonslip souls are great on the roads

I have the actual Milwalkee cowboy type boots they were $75 a couple yrs ago from Jafrum (kinda like the 2nd choice you have listed) I don't think the laces deal makes any difference. I actually like the loose fit without the laces. I also have a pair of 8" motorcyle specific boots with the laces and the zip on the side with super aggresive soul. I like the cowboy type - higher coverage on the leg than my other boots, I always slid on the high cowboy ones on now. - Dan

my dad wears a pair very similar to your type 2. I wear a pair of work/hiking boots, high enough for good ankle support. When I buy new I just look for something with good ankle support and comfortable and water proof. I don't worry about MC specific - I wear them all the time/everywhere till they wear out.

I bought a new pair of TCX SS Performance boots last year. $169.95.

Absolutely love 'em. They've got all the protction guards, side zippered w/ wrap around velcro, water resistant, and VERY well ventilated.

I figured they'd be great in the summer, and too cold in the winter.... no way. They're a great, all around riding boot.

Most of the TCX line is awesome. I liked this one model better for a few reasons...
1) Had extra protection in key places some of the others didn't.
2) The price... the others were around $225.00
3) Found them in stock locally, so I could try them on BEFORE buying... saved a lot of hassels.

So far, they've held up very well... no complaints.

No steel toe but you can usually find them at Army surplus stores. They're very comfortable and inexpensive at ~$40.

Thanks for the ideas guys, Im not necessarly looking for bike specific boots although I would consider them if I find a pair I like. I think Im leaning more towards the composit toe now, I like having the protection with out the weight and cold of steel! I cant find another pair like them from carolina's site. Their the only pair that are lined inside with leather, that makes your foot melt like butter.
If I come across another pair of them might think about getting them but donno. With your guys help I hope to find a pair good for riding and other outdoor activities.

The one's I mentioned are really only suitable for riding, but are very comfortable for walking around in...

The other's I would recommend are the Airtechs. Buddy's got them. They're awesome, but pricey.

Redwing

Working for the state they buy us boots from Redwing every year. So my first year I got a pair of steel toe lace ups, just like your first option. Then my second year I got a pair of typical engineer boots, steel toe of course. Now on my third year I got what looks like a low top hiking shoe with an aluminum toe. I alternate between the first and second pair when I ride and even when I don't because they are so comfy. And I know all three cost less than $150 a pair. But I do know some people can not wear Redwings because they do something to their feet but so far I love all three pair of mine.

Hey, you're welcome!

If you really want the safety toe try to find a composite. I've found metal hot in the summer even hangin' my toes in the breeze and it's cold in the winter and in the rain. The same goes for the metal safety supports in the arches.

When metal gets on a hot exhaust you're not gonna get that boot off fast enough.

I'd go for the Black Beauty double sole, one of the few boots that come in a EEE width. Your choice may differ.
The boots I wear now are called "Brute Boots". 12" high zip-back riding boots with a gearshift pad on each and moulded soles.
Bought them for $80 at the 1987 Toronto bike show. I had the zips replaced two years ago and the tread is starting to show wear.
